Wodin nailed it...a mix of hardware and software problems on the new box.
since i don't own a "legit" copy of XP, i was working on ripping one. well, that wasn't working, so it was time to run a win98 boot disc and fire up XP through that, or at the worst, win98 and then just straight install XP over the top.
well, for starters, i was pissed that i wasted 4 hours and countless burns and still didn't have a working XP disc.
i didn't buy a hard drive for the new comp, so i pulled the one out of the old one, but the win98 boot disc i had wouldn't work. i plugged it back into the new comp and was going to just do the 4 boot discs needed for XP.
my floppy drive has apparently taken a massive dump on me. it's not the cost, they're dirt cheap, it's the principle that at the moment i need the fucker, it's dead.
at this point i was ready to throw my colostomy bag at Bile Stew's head. i had to let it go for the night.
yesterday i almost had another shit fit of juvenile proportions. i got my hands on a legit copy of win98se. first i threw a linux mandrake CD in the computer and partitioned the new 80g hard drive into 2 drives, then went and stated the win98 install. win98 refuses to install without scandiscing the drive, and it found a bad sector (BS) and wouldn't move it.
so by now i'm ready to grab the hammer. i said fuck it, went back in with linux and made it one big drive. win98 installed, then as soon as it was up and running, i threw XP in there and got that installed.
got too tired last night to set up the new computer after the XP install, plus i need to harvest the 100g hard drive out of the old computer and get that setup in the new one. soooooo....
have 2 tests tomorrow that i need to study for and a computer to set up. my priorities are always really shitty, so the computer will get done before the studying does.
