Here is a pic of my Cichlid aquarium.......Builth the stand myself and actually had to replace the tank......the brace broke on the front and then after I fixed it it broke on the back so I went and got a new one.......anyway:
nice 55 gallon long set up... what kind of filtration system do you run? I like the background, and the accents are done very tastefully, i.e. not over done..
The only thing I'd say, is you might want to get more than 8 in that 55, or they will be eating on eachother soon... C's are probably the most agressive fish, i.e maniguensas, oscars. et all

I am using undergravel filtration with 2 powerheads. I have heard that I shouldn't do this with cichlids (they love to dig) but I will see how it goes. Actually had 2 of the cichlids that went in one of the holes that I didn't have covered up.....took me forever to get their asses out of their and block the hole.

The 8 fish have only been in there 2 weeks now and I just replaced the tank........or I would have put some more in.... I am waiting to make sure this new tank cycles and then I will add a few more. Those 8 fish will end up being a total of 40 - 45 " and I have been told several times that the rule of thumb is 1" of fish per gallon..... so I can add 2 or 3 more. There is also a pleco in there.
Thanks....... not nearly as cool as the saltwater aquarium I want to do next. There aren't any freshwater fish that can even compare to saltwater fish. I want an octopus also.......those are awesome.
Hmm the other thing you should consider is maybe getting a HOT (hang on tank) wet dry filter... Cics are pretty dirty fish, the benefits of the extra "good" bacteria you get with a simple wet dry can never be over stated..

Saltwater tanks look great, but man.. I cannot even begin to tell you how much work they are... One a week you have to replace about 20% of the water.. and rebalance the salts.. Also, salt fish are way more expensive, and are much more temperature sensitive. They grow algea a lot quicker, and if you even think about getting invertibrets or clams, then you need to go to VHO lighting which is really expensive and a pain in the ass to rig right on a standard tank.
