Lao Tzu, I remember reading about those "shock" studies in behavioral evolution class in undergraduate school. Those were some pretty amazing results. You know that people are compelled to act that way, but to the extent that they went along was just incredible.

I don't think anyone was condoning or excusing the behavior. Rather, they were just commenting on the extent to which that sort of "maintain the status quo" type of behavior can go, which was the entire point of the experiment.
