Vel,

In NYState, do you need to have county specific firearms licences or is it statewide?.. also, do you need to be a state resident to carry in NYState?

not a pistol, or concealed, nope.
If you're here to hunt, look me up...

Good site. Should answer any questions you have.

That is a great site and it should cover any questions.

It's by county and the county is based on your legal 1st residence.

Oh and NYC has it's own set of laws and is almost treated as a separate entity from NY state.

Suffolk.

If you're traveling county to county for the sole purpose of shooting you can get away with having the pistol on your body. All other times it has to be locked, in a box in either your trunk or a locked glove box.

It's wise just avoid driving through the city period if you don't have a validated license.

State to state I'm not really familiar with because I've never had the experience, I imagine locked away would still apply.

Concealed? Yes everywhere in the usa. Locked and loaded in a holster in your truck no.

wrong on the 2nd part my friend. a loaded gun in the car depends on what state you reside in AND if you have permits for that state or not. In PA, you can not have a loaded weapon in the car with you unless you have a conceal carry permit. if you do not have said permit and do have a gun in the car, the chamber must be open and the safety must be on when applicable.

conceal carry permits are sometimes honored by other states, but you must still abide by that state's laws. my conceal carry permit is good in PA, KY, and FL but nowhere else. kinda strange that it's not honored by other states bordering PA, but oh well, i don't leave the state much.

i wasn't offended by Spongebob's comment. he's right, PEOPLE kill people, not guns. until a gun loads itself, levitates, aims, and fires at someone and kills them without a shred of human interaction, then i'll believe that guns kill people.

Depends on the reciprocity for each state with your state of issue. In Colorado I can carry "for safe passage" in my truck locked and loaded. I could swear I read you can't in NY though.
I still have to get my CCW class done, nearly every state I travel to for work has reciprocity though.
And Colorado is a shall issue state.

NYC is a pain in the ass for CCW (4000 licenses only). Unless you know the right people. Their rules are similar to Cali.
