I don't know if you tan, but when I do... I make use of my time lying on that bed by doing 30 second vacuums... So in 15 minutes I do 15 30 second sets. You wouldn't think you can get sore from just static holds like this, but it is a bitch.
frank sure is in good shape but his face looks drawn in that pic. his cheeks are sunken and he looks very tired. maybe it was just one of those days or he dieted down so much he lost too much fat in his face.
I read an article on vacuums somewhere...maybe it was here.
Doing the vacuum holds is really supposed to improve the look of your abs. They said start off doing them lying down and work up to doing them standing with your arms up, like in the picture above.
I have been doing vacums for a month now, every other day I do 5 sets holding for 30 secs. I currently do them lying down because I can tighten the transverse abdominals (inner abs which are targeted with this exercise) better.
These were nearly a mandatory thing in the old days. Reeves, Park, Arnold, Pearl, Zane, Nubret, etc, etc all did some form of vaccumm shot in their routine. You need a small waist, and not only small but thin as well. The fat f**ks of today don't really have both and in some cases neither. Oh well
Arnold had some great tips for working on this shot in his encyclopedia. Oops, I shouldn't bring that up. Arnold was an idiot when it came to training and sure didn't know what he was talking about......
You have to have a big rib cage to do that pose well. One of the reasons people did pullovers was to stretch the cartilege at the ends of the ribs. I could do it but not nearly as well as Zane.
