US Army guys: need help on this

The United States Department of Defense recognizes our PASGT Vest as the best body armor available for protection from exploding shrapnel and fragmentation. Our V50 Ballistic Test Data consistently meets or exceeds 1675 fps (510 Mps). Constructed of Kevlar® high strength fibers, studies from Vietnam conclude that casualties could have been reduced by 40% if every soldier wore a PASGT helmet and vest. This Lightweight design allows great mobility and versatility. In additions, the Kevlar® materials offer unprecedented heat and flame resistance. Thermal conductivity is lower than asbestos; the vest will not melt or support combustion.

UPGRADE OPTIONS:
- Ballistic upgrade to effectively handle 9mm FMJ and 44 magnum projectiles at 1400 fps (427 mps)
- KM2 Kevlar® lighter weight, high performance materials may be substituted for a 15% weight reduction while maintaining the same ballistic rating

I'm looking at mine and I dont have all those nifty pockets hmmm...Actually I can't verify if it's real or not just by the pictures cause I could be wrong to assume it's not cause mine doesn't look like that

I could be mistaken but what is issued to us should be able to stop an m-16 round and nothing larger

personally I wouldn't trust it to protect me from getting shot up, Sure a bit of frag and it should be ok but not if it's a direct impact like you jumping on a grenade

Can you imagine the fucking impact of that? Damn- the jacket might save your life, but I bet that bullet would snap some ribs with a quickness. :worried:

That's what I thought too. A .44 magnum can be stopped with a Level IIIA so no big deal here. To stop a .223 NATO you need a level III which isn't the case here I think.

Cas - Imagine a .50 BMG at 3000 fps and delivering 13000 ft. - lbs of energy ? ehehehehe, no more ribs for a while !

Do people live through that very often? The impact of a .50 BMG would be incredible...like getting hit by a car with a half inch diameter of something. 13,000 foot pounds is tremendous; wouldn't that shock the internal organs so bad that it could easily stop your heart or cause severe bursting and hemorrhaging of the internal organs?

Manny that reasoning is why If I could I wouldn't wear a Kevlar helmet into Battle...Why the fuck if I get shot in the head would I want to survive it???Chances are I'd break my neck

it would cost me about $100 US to replace my helmet if I lost it

My Drill sgt from basic would burry his with his chute when he jumped in somewhere with his SF team and provided that same reasoning to me and other in my class for not wearing it in battle...About the only thing it's good for is to help with falling debris

Even with a Level IV you'd most likely end up with a messed up lung or spend the rest of your life on a wheelchair.

Helmets are good against pistol/subgun bullets. That's it. Most kevlar helmets are only level IIIA. Any decent rifle bullet can through it. I agree, better wear a bandana.
