It happens, shutdown firefox then hit ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. Under processes find firefox.exe and shut firefox off. Reload firefox.

i lose my crap all the time but i dont use much stuff except ef and my monthly cycle thingy

rename to bookmarks.html
 
my mozilla screws up alot
and i have to do another one and rename it and stuff
i have like 3 with bookmarks in it
and it sucks

I don't think he actually lost the bookmarks, I think firefox crapped out on him. It's happened a few times to me with 1.5.0.3.

i cant find it if i close firefox
 
Damn, i think you have to shut down the whole firefox by pressing Alt+Contro+Delete.......

as the Windows Task Manager pops up you have to go to Processes........

Then stroll down to firefox.exe, click on it once (highlight it) and press End Process at the bottom right...........

Then restart your firefox and they should be back up.....

the puter was acting slow
so i do what i always do when it pisses me off, i unplugged the bastard
so when it came back on i lost all my bookmarks

:FRlol: :FRlol: I dont mean to laugh but this is too funny........you unplugged it because?

Run a good firewall, good anti-virus software and set up your pc to get rid of cookies often and clean it up once in a while as well as disfragment and that wont happen much.........

You could follow my directions but essentially its as well what redguru said, he beat me to it.....
 
Go to c:

then go to Documents and Settings

find your username.

go to Application Data

then to Mozilla

then Firefox

then profiles

there's probably only one directory there, click on it.

find the bookmarks.bak file and rename it to bookmarks.html

there is no application data

just follow what redguru said, i just shut did what he said to see if it works, and sure enough it works like a charm..................
 
You probably have show hidden files or folders unchecked in your folder options.

When you get to C: go to the tools menu then folder options. Hit the view tab and x in the box marked "show hidden files or folders".

then try finding the folders again.

ok that worked now im to the profile part, but there are 2 profile choices
1 - profiles with a yellow folder
2 - profiles with what looks like a notebook next to it and underneath the profiles says configuration settings

which profiles do i hit 1 or 2?

Another thing you should do from tools/folder options in windows explorer is uncheck "hide file extensions for known filetypes"
 
after you do what my previous post says. find the file bookmarks.html

rename it bookmarks.ba1, then rename bookmarks.bak to bookmarks.html

no it just says in black letters what is in their now (which i assume is the default)

What is the size of all the bookmarks.whatever files? in KB

One that small probably really is empty then. Mine is 267KB. Unless you can find one thats a lot bigger they probably really are gone. I would search the entire hard drive for bookmarks.*
 
It's not good. If you have your bookmarks in another place then copy them over from the other machine. Nothing else you can really do besides a search and pray.

First close down Firefox, then Select Start > Run... from the Windows
Start menu. Then type
"firefox.exe -profilemanager" without the quotation marks and press OK.
That will take you to
the profile manager menu.
There will be two settings for bookmarks there...
Choose the one not in use, that should fix you, if not repeat steps until they re-appear.

If this happens again...
Firefox locks up then you close it and it say's it's already running when trying to reopen...
Then do the Ctrl, Alt and Del...
Find the Firefox app, and close it down.
This will save the bookmarks.

The file was "in use" so it probably go corrupted when you pulled the plug. Try to use Task Manager/processes instead of killing the power something freezes. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do though.
 
Also, if it happens again, go straight to the backup file. It could be that it became currupted and made a new, blank one and then it copied the useless one over your backup when you restarted a couple of times.
 
Back up your bookmarks by exporting them to MS Internet Explorer on a regular basis, that way if you lost them you can always re-import them back from IE.
