Upright rows

What are you feelings on this exercise for shoulder/trap development? It has been a staple of my routine for some time and last night i experimented with explosive rows. start about mid thigh, knees bent some and explode up. It nailed my traps like never before. Love finding new things
 
I like doing them explosively myself. I go heavy and try to hold the wieght at the top portion for awhile, let it down slow and explode it back up from the mid thigh position.
This is how i do my shrugs now too.

If they hurt your wrists, try doing them w/ an ez-bar. I personally have always loved this exercise. Aside from Standing OHP, it's my favorite deltoid exercise.
 
If you do them explosively from your thighs, they are a good exercise IMO. Just don't do your upright rows traditionally; I think that this way becomes too much of an isolation exercise.
 
IMHO hang cleans would do a better job of acclomplishing the same goal, and probably with less wrist/shoulder strain.
