upregulation??

Read an article in this months MD about drugs that "upregulate" androgen receptor sites. The premise being that by using these drugs before and/or after a cycle you clean out your receptors so you don't "have" to elevate the androgen dose on next cycle......????????

You need to elevate your doses because you've driven your mass beyond your genetic limit. When you use AS you change your gene activity and in essence change your genetics. To keep maintain hypergrowth you have to go up in dose to create more gene activity, which means more protein synthesis. Has nothing to do with cleaning receptors.

I can see that when you first start out.......but for an experienced AAS user, couldn't you get to the point where even 2-3 grams of test per week has the effect that 500mg's had when you first started? So doesn't receptor downgrade have at least "something" to do with the loss of efficacy? How is then that people can make great gains on AAS and keep their gains while off??

The people that make great gains and keep them are the people who didn't use the AS to push themselves past their genetic limits. It all depends on at what point in your development you begin using AS. After many years you just have to keep going up because it's the AS altering your genetics that allow you to hold mass at that particular level. That's why pros get to the point where they need 10 grams a week.
There is absolutely no proof anywhere of human androgen receptor down regulation.

as ulter has said, theres a lot more to it than receptor availability. there are hundreds of little steps and feedback loops that take place after the receptor has been stimulated, all of which have the potential to bottleneck the muscle building process. "receptor cleaning" is idiot science, imo.
