ok, so i moved out the other night, and shit really hit the fan.
i went in there and told them i was moving out, and they seriously flipped shit, especially when i told them they wouldnt be getting another dime from me, since they already had my last month's rent.
well, they were screaming and yelling and taking photos of me packing my stuff (ok...), then they tried getting me to sign all sorts of shit, which i refused. then they tried getting my buddy, who was there helping me move, to sign shit for me...which he didn't do either.
they then tried taking some of my military equipment to hold as ransom so i would pay for an additional month. i was like, i would appreciate it if you gave my stuff back, because it isn't mine - it's the federal government's. you aren't taking from me, you are taking from the united states military, and you will deal with them, not me.
they gave me my shit back.
well, they are still going on and on about how they are going to sue me because one of their parents is a lawyer (in another state), even though we had no written lease. so, i decided to do some homework, and guess what i turned up.
the city i live in requires a written lease for anyone living in a place for more than 30 days.
all tenants are supposed to be furnished a written copy of the lease, with all names of the tenants living there, within 5 days of moving in - again, this did not happen.
all trash pickup must be paid for and established before the day the tenants move in - again, this did not happen.
the home we were living in was zoned for 3 tenants, and they had 4. this was supposed to be outlined in a lease, which it wasn't. and by law, all people are held responsible (tenants and landlord) if this law is broken. it comes with a fine of $2000 per day.
they also broke the Crime Free Addendum which makes a lease null and void if any illegal/criminal activity is going on in the place (they smoked more weed than pick3, jd, and an army of phish fans).
and finally, the house wasn't even licensed as a rental home. the owner of the house (the landlord) is living out of state and renting out the home without a license. not only does he need a license, but he also needs a local manager to oversea his property.
this place was ripe with violations, so if they want to still come after me, they better realize that the extra month's rent they may try to get out of me, will end up costing them far much more than if they just dropped it.
