Sup bros, just wanted to let you guys know I just got hired at a distribution center for a major grocery store here in California, starts off at 16/hr. It is a Union job and I am pretty stoked, I remember Dannomight telling me to get into a union job. It is part time for now, but once they see me bust my ass I will be full time. So things are looking better for me financially, finally. That is all, oh and go OKC

lol whats wrong with a union? Oh and the worst part of this situation is that my g/fs brother carpools with me cus he got the job too, but he is so boring, and it is a 70 minute driver there and 70 minutes back. I am a social guy and like to talk, and he makes it so gay and boring, i fuckin hate it and am gonna go crazy and just start blasting music if he doesnt start talking

They all get over paid and are the reason for the problems of America Duh....

Not my Words.. Maybe they will speak up.

lol @ driving 140 mile round trip for a part time job.
Teamsters? Or UFCW?
Used to manage the healthcare benefits for UFCW and Teamsters in CA and holy fuck are they douchebags to deal with

Hope you do get full time, that would be good for you.

How much per hour are the dues? What does it deduct per paycheck?

You need a paycut. You're the reason Twinkies are $7/box.

Union job would be the best thing to happen to a kid like Glad. No accountability or responsibility, just pay your dues and show up....or dont show up, doesnt matter hahah

Let's see how this adds up.

16 an hour part time, let's say 24 hrs a week avg is 768 before taxes per two week pay period.

Take out taxes and dues, lets say 120 bucks.

So you're left with 658 dollars.

Minus the 140 minutes spent driving for each shift. After all, time is money, right? For glad's sake, we'll assume he gets 3 8 hr shifts, so that's 140*3 = 7 hours.
And if glad is worth 16 bucks an hour, that's 112 bucks he's out from the driving. 112 potential dollars per week, so we wont take it away from his earnings.

Then there's gas. The charger gets anywhere between 20 and 27 highway. (Did he get the SRT? I feel like he did). So Best case scenario, he's burning 6 gallons of gas a trip. But he's carpooling so we'll half it. 3 gallons. In California. Avg price per gallon today is 4.18. So thats 72 bucks a pay period on gas. I cant fault you for that, its not that bad. I spend more than that.

So thats 586 bucks. Every two weeks.

I dunno, might be worth it due to the union association or whatever. Never been part of one, so I dont know what its like.

So about 1200 bucks a month. How do you pay rent, a car payment, insurance, and everything else in California with that?

I've worked union jobs for close to 13 years. Yes I did have to pay union dues, maybe 1200 -1500 per year but I was making good money at my job. Non union workers in the same trade in my area were lucky to make 15-17hr with no benefits (healthcare or pension). I mean if anybody had a choice to either make $35 per hour with great healthcare and pension and have around 2% or less of there wages go to dues as well or not pay any dues and make less than half with no bennies. Also in the trades the union don't protect shitty workers. If your a bum they will fire your ass and send another one out until they find someone who will do what's expected. Where im at now is a different story. It's all based on seniority and you have to screw up repeatedly to get shitcanned.

Also I have worked non union on the side when I was slow for cash. It's good for side gigs on the weekends or if you really need it but if you have a family you gotta do what's best for the kids.

390 initiation fee, $39 monthly, and a $36 once a year strike fee.

Not bad imo. They are 10 hour shifts, so 20 hours a week would be full time at a minimum wage job. I have other ebay side jobs and the wifey works as well. Danno, this is 100% based on seniority. BUt thats ok I plan on staying in a long time. I could be up to 20-24 an hour in a couple years

He will talk to me about something, I will respond, and in the middle of me talking he will grab his phone and start texting, and when I am done talking he still wont respond, and then when he is done texting he will put his phone down and not say a word. Like he forgot we were having a convo lol so lamee

That guy needs a head lock and a stern talkin to asap!

really?/ you might get past the probationary period.. but you'll learn soon enough that people with seniority will always work the better shift, make more money, get the time off they want for vacation.. long before you ever will..

and when it's time for layoffs... you'll be the 1st to go, even if you can do 2x the work of someone else..

Good luck though hope it makes you happy in your life..

Never heard of a PT union job

ever

so you don't get to work your way through a killer apprenticeship?

unions are good for money and benefits and in canada its damn near impossible to get fired from a union job. they are useless fucks so u dont have to do much, another plus.

i agree with making the weirdo drive. but if i was you, i would talk yourself quiet in the car so by the time you get to work you are silent and dont talk yourself out of a job. i especially wouldnt mention your personal life, your goals, your past experiences, or any kind of idea you come up with.

why dony you just start in a trade, 4 years and you will be a journeyman. is trades that poor in america. my crew's helper has been working 6 months and makes about 750 every friday! 4 years later you will be getting double that. union trade job even better because of the reasons i listed first
