understand hypertension and how to effectively control it...

I just read that awesome article by Dr. John Laragh. It finally explained to me why Procardia / low sodium diet never lowered my BP and when i went on Ace Inhibitor Enalapril my BP was normal and I had less bloating.

I had renin based high BP from my kidney producing too much renin genetically.

Blocking renin's ability to convert normal angiotensinogen in the blood to angiotensin I and then angiotensin II, lowerd artery constriction in addition to angiotensin II also acting on my adrenal glands to produce aldosterone. (aldosterone is the root of Estrogen / sodium bloating, aldosterone is increased by excess estrogen)

Great post.

no doubt bro, i wish more bros would take the time to read it. i believe there's some information there that can save some of us a lot of problems in the future. even if you don't have problems with bp in the future, this information could help a loved one.

bros you should read this interview.

Great information. One thing to keep in mind, some physician's are not up on the lastest trends in treating hypertension and preventing / treating heart failure that can result for prolonged hypertension. It is important that you choose a healthcare provider that knows his / her stuff.

I think my HTN is due tomy AAS use. So I am supposed to get a doc to help me manage my BP problems based on my AAS use?

Good question. Is roid based high BP of the sodium retension / water retension / increased blood volume variety or is it due to constricted blood vessles, arteries and veins assoicated with increased kidney renin production. Seems like if we could get an ACE inhibitor or an Angiotensin II receptor blocker like 40butpumpin is on, or both, that would be a good thing to try. especially if you run HGH, EQ, Masteron, Winstrol, etc.. any of the known BP agravating drugs.

Now, we know that Winstrol is the king of increased crit levels and other hemalogical blood levels including plasma and overall volume, maybe that answers the question of how winstrol elevates bp. That would point to a diuretic drug / anti sodium retension drug being usefull. But the bloating type incresed bp from drugs like anadrol, dbol, test, etc.. could be renenin / aldosterone based (big cat is all over anti aldosterone bloating drugs like spironoloactone) but nobody touches on the renin system. help needed.

great points twistedneck. thoroughly understanding this could go a long way toward eliminating hypertension while on cycle, as well as those suffering from hypertension even when not on any AS. knowing exactly what med to take, or more accurate exactly what type or class of med to take, for each and every individual, would be incredible to say the least. it would save a lot of time, money, and damage to your body.

i've inquired about a renin test from Quest Diagnostics and apparently it would run $143.55 for the Direct Renin Assay and $273.40 for the PRA (Plasma Renin Activity) test. the former is a quicker, automated test that is slightly less accurate than the latter which is more 'skilled-labor' intensive and takes about 4 or 5 days as opposed to 24 hours.

at the very least this information could help on an individual basis for those wishing to protect themselves from the ravages of high blood pressure and the games the pharmaceutical industry is playing with our lives.

good luck finding a physician that is not being led around by the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry. i think it's better to educate ourselves and treat them like the hired hands that they are. that they are not up on the latest trends in treating hypertension is by design in my humble opinion. think about how much money that could be saved by the popuation every year if everyone with hypertension knew exactly how to treat it from onset and were treated with one drug for life. now they have people on 3, 4, and even 5 different med's after trying a myriad of others. it's a money making machine. they've recently come out with "prehypertension," and are constantly pushing med's that cause people to walk around impotent when it's completely unnecessary. then they say things like testosterone has not proven its usefulness or necessity or whatever they're saying wrt HRT. it's a joke to say the least. your physician is not your friend, he/she has sold out and is bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry. your own determintion, heart, and mind are your friends. we need to not rely on our doctors, and think for, and educate, ourselves.
