umbilical hernia? anyone?

I felt a pain in my right side for about a week and wasn't paying too much attention to it, figured it was just my abs - felt like a pulled muscle - would go away.
then last night I was out for a walk and I for whatever reason was feeling my stomach and I felt a marble sized hard knot right above my belly button.
at first I was like, damn, that is hard - so I flexed, felt hard, unflexed and felt around - everything around it is properly squishy - except for the marble.
it is directly above my belly button.
I can't see anything, but can distinctly feel it if I press.

anyone had anything like this? the obvious assumption would be an umbilical hernia I guess, but I don't really feel pain, just noticed it there - the pain was off to the right, not in the center there. no movements bother it, and I never felt pain there while lifting...

anyone go through one of these before? do you know what causes them?
I'll call the doc when I get into work on Monday, but I'm not sure when I can get an apt.

I'm hoping it is something else b/c 6 weeks is the recovery time on these things and I know I lost 25lbs in 3weeks off, so I am not looking forward to the 6...

fucking a.

oh I wish it were a tumor - but not benign. I want something the doctors refer to as "raging" (and not just a case of herpes this time).

I don't think I'm having kittens - but it is true, in today's day and age, one really can never be sure of anything. except that The Rock always wins his fights in movies.

my groin is massive in everyway, but not any moreso do to the potential hernia - it is as normally huge as it ever was.
I have no visible soft buldges anywhere - but I have a hard as a rock marble sized thing just above my belly button that wasn't there a few days ago.

I've read through the shit on the web about hernis and I don't seem to have the one where the shit tears through into the nuts, and I don't seem to have the one where the shit tears through the diaphraghm (sp?), but it does sound like an umbilical one - which is usually only kids though, and it is usually soft and not rock hard.

oh well - I welcome all suggestions, recommendations, and other multi-syllable words that would help my cause.

Hey Happy,

Yep, thats what you have.umbilical hernia. I just had surgery four weeks ago for the same thing. My only down time was 10 days. I never took a single pain pill. I had a great doctor.

thanks mj - do you know what caused it in the first place?
are you more careful now in the gym?
are there certain things to avoid?

I'm not really worried about the pain or anything, just more about losing all that I've worked to get over the past... however long.

you wouldn't happen to be in the Boston area would you?

did you just go to the doc and they referred you to someone?

Hey Happy,

What could have caused it, could be as simple as picking up a paperclip from the floor. In my case the doctor really didn't know if it was connected to working out or not therefore, I have not changed my routine at all.
Sorry I dont live in Boston but, if you come to LA I have a great surgeon for you, oh and by the way I only lost 3 lbs during my recovery.

I wish you the best man...and will say a prayer for you this evening.

Lost your email addy when my comp crashed...so shoot me one.
