The question is whether the benefits outweigh the risks of our freedoms under the Constitution, and in the case of firearms, which are also used to save thousands of lives every year, I don't believe that this particular deal with the devil is worth it.

Err... you're talking about the US.

Here in the UK not having the right to own a firearm is not a big deal to 99% of the law abiding public.

Also private firearm ownership has never saved thousands of lives every year over here. In fact I wouldn't have thought that its saved any.

OK, you banned guns and your crime rate went UP! That is the point. And banning guns, making people register them only targets those that abide by the law. You really think that crack dealer on the corner is going to register his guns? I bet if your mom or sister was being raped you would let her use a gun, so why tell me I cannot do the same?

A few points:

The gun crime in the UK was already going up before private firearms were banned - just like in pretty much every country in the world (whether firearms are allowed or not)

I never said that banning guns in the US was a good idea. I don't know much about the state of guns in the US so I don't comment on it.

Nobody ever said that criminals in the UK would find it harder to get guns after the ban. Everyone knew that criminals would find ways to get firearms.

The UK laws were intended to stop legally owned firearms from being used to kill - which they do.
