Ugh. Sometimes formatting is so tedious

I usually don't mind doing it but this time, I'm kinda annoyed with it. My comp started spazzin on me today for some reason. Everything was moving at a snails pace. I even had to reboot a few times b/c it locked so hard. I ran adaware and pc-cillin. No serious spyware or virus was found. Once that happened, I realized it was time to format. Even though this may have been a freak incident and it could have gone away tomorrow, it was time for a fresh install anyways. I usually do it every six months. One thing that struck me as odd and it has happened a few times that I have formatted. I'll insert the winxp cd. Run the install not upgrade. Make sure it's formatting the correct drive/partition. It'll format the drive and install windows yet my dir's from my previous installation on XP will still be there. It's like the only thing it overwrote was the windows dir even though I chose fresh install. It's like Xp does a "dirty" install everytime I choose format. Has anyone else had this experience?

ive heard you have to get down to actual "format C:\". last time i just reinstalled windows, for my girlfriend, she said her problems didnt go away on her pc. i guess you have to truly wipe the drive.

I love reformatting... i feel so clean afterwards...
