Do they know if you are on the computer? I get IM's when I sit down and start typing. It's from AOL, I thought only Yahoo could do that?

Use Invisible Mode. See the eyeball on the left side at the top of your Buddy List? Click on it. If the eye is open, you are visible to anyone who has Buddy Listed you. If the eye is closed, you will appear to have logged off.

or maybe don't use IM. all logic points to the fact that you need people (especially online) when you go here, use IM and have mentioned dating sites before. I can only assumed there are more online places you visit.

OK I went to the "custom allow" list and entered nothing. that seemed to take care of it but i can't see anyone's name either now. No big deal but i would have rather seen them while being in stealth mode.
