Anyone else watch this? I don't have HBO and I've gotten season one on DVD from Netflix and I was skeptical but I kinda like it. HBO puts out some good original programming.

True Blood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

True Blood is an American television drama series created and produced by Alan Ball. It is loosely based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris. The show is broadcast on the premium cable network HBO in the United States. It is produced by HBO in association with Ball's production company, Your Face Goes Here Entertainment.[1] It premiered on September 7, 2008.

The show's second 12-episode season premiered on June 14, 2009. On July 30, 2009, HBO confirmed that a third season of True Blood will be released in the summer of 2010.[2]Alan Ball has said that he plans to start shooting the third season before Christmas 2009.[3]

True Blood details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps (meaning "good time" in French), a fictional small Louisiana town. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).[1][4]

The first season received critical acclaim and won several awards, including one Golden Globe.

I'm a fan...love the books too, and I enjoy the way the show differs from the books...gives it just enough freshness to keep me interested and allow for a surprise here or there.

I like Anna Paquin and am a vampire lover but I didn't get into the series. I saw a few episodes from the 1st season but didn't really fall in love with it.

Almost everyone I know likes the show though.

I thought it was interesting that in the promo I read it claimed vampires came out of the closet and financially supported repubs... I can't imagine a repub promoting vampire rights...liberal dems...yes...:)

blood sucking repubs living of the blood of the lower class?
yeah I can see that, literally and figuratively

Republicans would be all over this. Big business would start developing artificial blood for them to drink and the military would recruit an all-vampire Army to invade worthless 3rd world countries for their oil.

How is Twilight the movie Vs. the book?

The books are much better! The movie is not bad... just don't want Twilight after reading it like I did, I just became hugely disappointed on sections they skipped, things they should have emphasized more on...etc. And I am not a fan of Kristen Stewart... she looks more like a heroin addict then the "girl next door beauty".

Profiteering and big business taking advantage has nothing to do with a political view. Obama's cronies are a perfect example. It's more about the social issue, the Repub base is Jesusy and would have a strict anti-vampire policy. Bill O'Reilly would make a knightly talking point crusading against vampire rights....they are dead after all and would be considered demonic and satanic.

i know a few girls that love it....tried to get me into it. i admit i kinda like it, but some of the context and scenarios seem so stupid. (i.e. the confrontations)

i started watching mid season this season (2), so i'm still holding my complete judgement till i back track and watch the original episodes.

I'm watching it from season 1 via netflix...I've watched the first four episodes.

Is this show the reason that women all want to fuck vampires now? I really wish someone would educate women that vampires are fictional characters.

or just go Goth...

Bitches have always liked the brooding anti-social type...they want to change them. How do you think I've been getting laid for the past twenty years. :)

The book is enjoyable, the movie was terrible IMO.

Thanks for the .02 but can you give me a better review. I watched twilight and thought it was bubble gum teen romance tripe. I've heard the book was good so....javaguru doesn't want to waste his time reading crap when he has very little free time. :)

It's been a while since I've read the books, but I do remember them being a lot less bubble gum teenybop than the movie. That said, they are still young adult novels and are very easy reading. If that doesn't bother you, I think the story is much better told in the books, and you don't have to deal with distractingly horrible acting.

You read Twilight?

*shakes head questioning e-crush*

It's a nostalgia thing...I had my own version of the twilight books when I was a preteen (that incidentally is being made into a CW show this fall). I picked one up out of curiosity. They really aren't that bad, but reading them still doesn't put me in the same category as the people who practically formed a religion out of them.

Vampires seem to be trendy again, the CW is promoting their "Vampire Diaries" series that appears to be a ripoff of Twilight....tween brooding vampire.

Vampire diaries is the books I mentioned that I read when I was a preteen...they came 15 years before twilight. If anything twilight is a ripoff of them.

But I can already tell from the previews that they fucked the story up royally lol.

I was discussing the trend of marketing vampires. I read Interview eighteen years ago and Twilight/Vampire Diaries are both derivative. They're going to make Vampire Diaries into Twilight...which was my point.:)

I don't know about vampire diaries coming from IWAV...there's no similarity at all even in the way either author percieves vamires. They are definitely using the success of twilight to promote vampire diaries, I won't deny that. But I hate anyone saying it's a ripoff of twilight when the books were published long before it (I feel retarded defending youth books, but they were the first full length novels I ever read and I wore them out so badly the pages fell out).

I've received BJ's from bitches that felt like they had vampire fangs

just sayin'

Having watched a few episodes of a series with Louisianan rednecks...I think I understand Pick3 a little better...

I should get the next DVD tomorrow...

I bust your ass like a little sister. I'm not denying one was published before the other but the media promotion is derivative of Twilight...the movie. When I was a teen I read Dragonlance and Thieves World...I'm a huge fantasy/sci fi geek.

I love zombie and vampire movies but the change in the presentation of the vampire genre...I do not like. I like true Blood because I think it addresses the darkness and doesn't romanticize it.

I logged on expecting a clever nefertitties post...:)

Oh well, now I'm reduced to watching a sy fy original gay ass movie..."Sand Serpents." Not only are the uniforms and demeanor of the actors/soldiers crap...they can't even form a proper wedge formation. :(

I have the last dvd to watch...Bill Vs. Sam...

I finished season one tonight.....

I hope it doesn't go too soap opera like..

I happen to catch a couple episodes recently and felt it was to soap opera-ish so prepare yourself.

Today's vampires want a "normal life". Unlike the character of Dracula famously played by Christopher Lee, today's vampires have feelings. I prefer the Forever Knight (british version) or the Dark Shadows series. I find it interesting the original vamp was a countess from Hungary, she didn't even drink blood just took bloodbaths. That's Hollywood for ya!

I read the Twilight books mainly because the 6th grade girls in school were asking for them. Thanks President Obama for allowing his daughter to read it. I liked the movie it was entertaining, books are always better tho. Personally I did not care for Bella or Edward in the books or movie. They were both too needy. Nothing worse than a whimpy vampire!

I watch True Blood and really like it. And these vampires DRINK BLOOD, need the shit in fact. It's an interesting twist, the social acceptance thing. And yes, some vamps do want a "normal" life, but just as many of them are completely thrilled at being able to kill people and drink their blood and just generally enjoy the whole lack of regular societal accountability.

I don't think it's too soap operaish. Has some interesting twists, both human and supernatural.

Now my husband, he can't frigging stand the show. Teases me a bit about watching it, in fact.

I liked how Bill was forced to convert the Jesusy chick as his punishments and she went to the opposite extreme once she was embraced...all about the rules ...I can kill anyone I want now. :)

I blame women for the arc in vampire personalities....they've been turned into a stereotypical "bad boy with a heart of gold." Vampires should view humans like cattle...the ones that cling to their humanity should still be subject to their inner desires and have the general opinion they are superior to their food.

I finished it last night. Ordered the blu rays from netflix. Like i said i started watching partially through season 2...without really knowing much before that

Season 1 is really good, i was hooked and very impressed. I wish i had started from that point. Alot of the perceived cornyness i thought about the show was dispelled. They put the story together well and you actually start liking the characters.

Season 2 isn't as good.....but it's still entertaining.

I liked how they developed the characters in season one ...for the most part. Bill was a "main streamer" but not just a bad boy with a heart of gold...he was a predator that killed people...he wasn't cut and dried as a "good guy" but a true anti-hero.

yeah, i agree. bill gets kinda lame in the 2nd season though

I actually watched the "Vampire Diaries" before "Supernatural" and it was exactly what I thought it would be..."True Blood" remains the best vampire show on TV.

Love vampire / zombie films but not the sappy crap that is popular now. I want to see blood and gore etc.

True Blood is great! Very entertaining and as someone else posted, doesn't ignore the darkness that is essentially part of vampire's nature. :chomp:
