Trip to Mexico...Too Risky?

I have considered a trip to Mexico in order to purchase some QV gear. I am only interested in getting enough for myself, as anything purchased would NOT be for resale. I have heard of people making the trip down and sending gear back via UPS, through the regular mail, or bringing it back in their luggage. What little I have read, though, suggests that Mexican customs keeps a very close eye on packages leaving out of Mexico headed to the United States. I live fairly close to Mexico {southeastern United States} and a round-trip ticket would be very inexpensive. We have also considered a vacation trip to Cancun, which would “kill two birds with one stone”.

Is this too risky a venture? Would one need a passport? I surely do NOT want to spend time in a Mexican {or United States} jail.

I must be feeling generous.....because I am sure you will get flamed for this......but Mexican Customs? What the hell is that? Mexico could care less what you leave with....just don't try to bring an orange in....... I hope you meant U.S. Customs.....and yeah it's hard....my advice take an 8-10 week vacation....and stick yourself as much as you can.....I actually have a friend who lives in Laredo, and goes across once a week for this very purpose.....not a real bright guy though.....p.m if you would like some tips......this is something mods don't like to see in an open forum, and for good reason......

Go to Mexico to buy gear? Why? What a pain in the ass that is! Fuck that. Too much risk for too little reward. Take your chances with a domestic source and use the mail. To plan a trip to Mexico just to purchase gear isn't worth IMO.

AGREED!! I've done both and without a doubt its way too much trouble and actually it was more expensive for me.

Ask my lawyer.....it isnt a good idea to get gear from Mex.

Let the sources risk thier own asses, then just get it from them.....easy enough

I was in the same boat kid and I got searched and busted......in the end all I have to say is........dont do it.

I once almost serously screwed up... I got randomly selected for a search going in and had a pocket full of "rolls".

Checked my bags with a fine toof comb, patted me down... walked away a few pounds of sweat lighter.

Going to Mexico isn't what is used to be. I used to go all the time... it is NOT a good scene for newbies at all now. The good old days are gone.

With out going into smuggling details, I think ther are ways to get it across no broblem. Wear lose clothing to make you look smaller. Go with a chick and have a few beers and buy some big hats etc. Waltz across in a drunkin haze takin pics of the mexico sign.

Good luck, bro... just don't be stupid enough to walk through the line without doing a dry run first. Never carry your first time through.

Also, be aware - Customs are not stupid. They spend all day every day doing this. There isn't a single bright idea you are going to have that they haven't thought of... the loose clothes will get you extra scrutiny.
