Yeah, blood came out from under my finger nail. Just a little. I'm guessing the weight busted a capillary. Should I be concerned, or is that normal? I was doing a deadlift static hold with 315 for time with an over-over grip.
Cool I'm doing holds with 315 too but with a hook grip, I'm trying to adapt my thumbs to the hook grip for deadlifting, I got a nice blister and little blood spots on my thumbs
Is 10 seconds enough? I do either 1 hold for 60 seconds or 2 for 30 seconds each.
I'm not sure how you do them but also make sure to SQUEEZE the bar as hard as you possibly can, and not just hold on to it. When the time runs out the bar should pry your fingers open w/o anything you can do about it.
Debaser - my goal was 30 seconds. I worked up in weight, 30 seconds each weight increase. Over-over grip 135x30 sec, 225x30 sec, 275x30 sec, 315x10 sec. , then I tried over-under grip 315x15 sec, but my grip was shot by then.
Mike, the blood ain't a problem. It's the same as when people get nosebleeds when lifting heavy. Just busted capillaries. Nothing serious. I just personally don't like seeing blood seep from my body while I lift.
As for how long you hold it for, I don't think it matters. Point is, you're pushing yourself. Anywhere between 20-60 seconds I'd shoot for. 10 does seem a bit short, but even if you were to continue with that, you'd still improve.
On what day do you guys do these holds?? Like I said in another post, I'm really committed on doing some grip work, but I'm not real sure on what day I should throw it in there(I don't think it would be wise for me to do all this and then do deads, or vice versa).
