triceps ?

I was wondering how many people do triceps workouts alot and how much u need to do them i mean i do bench and stuff which works them alot but i work just triceps out for 1 hour every other day and im making mad gains like i can almost bench as much with my hands touching as i can with them shoulder length apart and i was wondering if thats to much and if someone can recommend anything?

An hour every other day on a small body part like triceps? That sounds like maaaad overtraining to me. what exercises and sets do you do? While i say that it's overtraining, the fact that you say you see mad gains means this approach works for you, but for how long i don't know. careful you don't burn yourself out!

I agree that training triceps for an hour every other day is insane. You work triceps indirectly doing other body parts also. I used to train triceps/biceps on their own day. Now I have done very little direct arm work, doing my 5x5, and my biceps/triceps are bigger then ever!! I couldn't believe that my arms grew doing only 2 sets of curls and 2 sets of close grip bench a week. All the other exercises I do: bench, deads, rows, pullups, work your arms harder then you think.

if you are gaining ground stay with it ... aint broke dont fix it ?

slow down when you start getting elbow pain though ...

what exactly do you do for an hour? how big are your arms..??

Well i have not been working out for a really long time i used to work out about 5 months ago and quit for a few months when i got a job this is my 7th week to keep it going strong however i never really lost any muscle in those few months because i was pushing in baskets at a grocery store about 14 - 20 at a time for 30+ hours a week and i dident have any of those ropes or machines to help me im only 18 and before this recent 7 weeks in the past i was kinda stuck i couldent move up at all in anything i did. got my bp to 200 and stopped there couldent move anywhere.

Anyways heres all the specs. I weigh 145 lbs and im 5' 7". Im not eating that much 2000 cal. a day but i keep it strict trying to cut the fat on the stomach mostly. My arms are about 15" which i know isent very good.
For triceps i do rope pull down, close grip b.p., skull crushers, tricep pull down with bar, dips, and diamond pushups. I do every thing weight x 6 or 8 x 3.
I bp 225 and i close grip about 190. and like on rope pull down i have gone up 80 lbs since 7 weeks ago.

anyways sorry for making it so long wanted to make sure who read this knew everything thanks for the help and replies!

Id say youd be over training, but if your making 'mad gain'.. id stay stick with it?? Just watch that your arms dont fall off from all that work

i work it once a week with db skull crushers, close grip incline bench, and push downs with rope and kickbacks with cables.

15 inch arms on a 5'7" frame is pretty good.

yeah, i was gonna say, a guy 145# and 5'7'' with 15'' arms IS good i thought..

i'm like 5'9'' 185# 16" twigs <- that's not good.

I am sure if you removed any direct tricep work from a w/o, your triceps would slightly shrink from the reduced stimuli.
My tris need direct work, or else they don't grow. it stinks

thanks for the compliments guys i dono to me its not that great but i guess i dont look at it the way yall do i look at a guy thats 6' and and am pissed that my arms arent as big as his but my arms are like 80% tricep i have almost no bicep however i noticed im lifting more weight than alot of people that wiegh twice my weight and work out alot but not being that big just pushes me to get stronger and i think that has alot to do with it my drive to be the best at what i do.

oh yeah and if u dont want ur triceps that big just stop working them even though its hard to do that if ur doing bench and stuff also u can loose weight if ur big which would make ur arms look stronger but not be as big do to fat, but why the hell would u want them to get smaller?

oh yeah sorry dident read female dident look at ur pic either because i wouldent have said that to a girl just dont do any work that has to do with triceps and they will prob get smaller. But im not really sure all that much on what else u can do ive never tryed to loose a muscle before

(1) 2-3 sets very light pushdowns to heat up the elbows and tris.
(2) 3 sets close grip bench press 8-6 reps
(3) weighted dips 3 X 8-6

Done after chest and delts

Yeah thats about what i used to do but i see way more gains than i used to but im thinking about going back to that because ive out lifted all the cables and such and its taking up to much time plus i dont want to do many reps cuz i figured getting my muscles bigger without out as much strength would hender the ability to gain strength as fast in years to follow(correct me if im wrong and i dont know the technical terms for everything).
