Transporting a car cross-country

I'm looking into having my car shipped from NJ to NoCal (bay area). I've never done this before, and don't know much about it. Do any of y'all have any recommendations on which companies to consider, or to avoid? Or important points to remember that I may not have thought of yet?

Your help is appreciated, thank you.

:D ;) :) :p  :fro:

Just got an instant quote from A1 Auto Transport for $775 (if I drop it off and pick it up myself, which isn't much of a problem).

I'm reading some very useful reviews on epinions.com. Dependable Auto Shippers (http://www.dasautoshippers.com) has many reviews, most of them good, and the online quote they gave me was less than the others I've seen thus far.

Bump for thoughts and experiences.

:D

I had mine shipped by Atlas in the back of their truck with the rest of my stuff for a flat 1000. They took pretty good care of it. The movers did a good job too.

Had mine shipped from Detroit to Phoenix 4 years ago. Can't remember who it was. Costed around $750. It was not an enclosed trailer, it looked similar to the ones they ship new cars in. hope this helps
