Training while sick

Does anyone here train while feeling drained? I've been sick for 3 days and I haven't gone, but I'm going to go today and try to push out a 30 min leg workout. Germs can't keep me down!

Must have been a month since this post was posted again...

Train if you feel like you want to train. Stay home if you don't.

I've been sick for several days. This morning I left the hospital after my brief stay and as soon as they took the needle out of my arm, I got in my car, put the top down, threw on some Metallica/Manson mix on the radio, and drove as fast as I could and not get caught to the gym.

...Note that I adjusted my training time, sets, and weights according to how I felt.

That may work for some, but for me, if I held to that philosophy I'd hardly ever get to the gym.

After more than 30 years of going to the gym it still takes motivation to get me there. It's still not something that comes naturally despite the fact that I hardly ever miss workouts.

The only reason I'd train if not feeling well was to keep the continuity in my training. Missing a few days can easily lead to missing a week, to a month and so on and so forth. Before you know it you've given it up completely and then it takes a truck load of motivation to start up again.

It is important however to consider the health of your fellow gym members. If your sickness is contagious you're really duty bound to stay away. In cases like that I treat it positively by considering it as a good excuse to give the body a really good rest.

This is spot on. A bad session is better than no session at all most of the time. If you can push it, go for it. No downside in my experience.

Not much keeps me from the gym. I've been die hard from 16 (154 lbs) to 31 (291 lbs).

I did miss Tuesday, I was in the hospital.

I can't imagine going to the gym and NOT wanting to be there...

I suppose the important thing here is we both get there. For you it's pleasure, for me it's a task which has to be completed.

Let's hope you'll still be pushing hard at 50 and beyond, but surely there is a time when it becomes monotonous and boring? What would happen, for example, if you had a bad motorcycle smash (or car accident) which caused permanent injuries you had to constantly work around (my case)?

I was in the hospital recently and all I could think about was getting to the gym. I came home last night, left, and got my gym bag ready. This morning I woke up, went back to the hospital for them to take more blood and refused to stay, and immediately drove to the gym. I didn't have a good one, but I had one.

I've been through Hell man, as I'm sure that you have been as well. My doctor(s) has told me that I should stick with a 1,500 calorie a day diet of rice and boiled chicken, and give up any hopes of being a competitive Strongman. Earlier this week I was sitting on the toilet having diarrhea that was mostly blood and all I could think about was what he told me. I've been through the severe depression, the tears and sadness, the laying in bed, and things that are just wrong to even talk about. I'm still going.

I've thought about what I'd do if I lost a limb in an accident of if the doctors eventually decide that they need to take out my intestines someday (soon?). I'll find a way to do something in the gym. Maybe hardcore bicycling or rock climbinb. I love rock climbing and I bet I could learn to do that pretty well with a new "obstacle" to work around.

You are right man, we are both in the gym. We both feel we have to. :)

But if you ever really don't want to go...don't. Especially if you are sick. If I feel that bad...I got no business being there:)

You training for a Ms. Fitness competition? LOL:D Just kiddin bro but where are the squats?

That's what I was thinking...

I'm still feeling bad so today I did box squats (normal for me) and did all of my minimum requirement sets with as little rest as possible...then I got in my car and left.
