What shoes do you wear for workouts? Do you wear different shoes for weights and for cardio?

I've got Nike Shox, two pairs, one is 2 years old :worried: which I finally dumped this weekend and the other pair almost a year. Still getting shin splints and lower back pain after running - had advice (thanks Jens) that the shoes are the issue. How often should you change them out?

The fit is a personal thing I know, but just interested to know what you like.

I have a friend who is a runner and she changes out her shoes about every 3-4 months. she runs about 5 -10 miles a day. as for me, i'm not a long distance runner so my shoes last a little longer.

As for me, I have two pair that i rotate depending on what i'm doing at the gym. my asics are for upperbody and cardio days and my otomix i use for leg and back day. I get shin splints and lower back pain from running also so I don't mind changing out my asics every 6-8mths. I've tried a lot of shoes and for me asics seem to give me the best support and allow me to run w/o getting bad shinsplints etc.

the otomix, well, those are kinda for my ego. when i first started working out all these guys would have their otomix shoes on lifting all these heavy weights. in the back of my mind i said that someday i would be lifting heavy weights and wearing my weightlifting shoes just like them. now i'm all grown up lifting heavy weights and wearing my weightlifting shoes!!yay!

New Balance 450s for everything except deadlifts; I have an old pair of hiking shoes that are really flat for those.

I had a miserable time finding comfortable sneakers until I found new balance, I've given up trying on anything that's interesting or cool looking, I'm tired of being disappointed.

I wear New Balance for everything except my kickboxing classes , which I then wear my very cool pair of fire engine red sparring high tops. I love those shoe's they make me feel like a "bad ass" in class :) and I get ton of compliments on them from the "real" boxing guys in the class :)

for workouts (squats/leg day) I wear these-

for running/cardio- i wear Asics gel nimbus & repalce them every 6 months or so. For weight-training (upper body) I wear Otomix & for deadlifts I wear socks!! LOL

I wear whatever my current sneakers are at the time - usually I have 2 pair that are new-ish & I alternate them. My older sneaks I wear if I'm just doing lifting.....

Nothing special.

Thanks for the replies - love the photos

I have heard that asics are good if you have splints/back pain issues.

I'm going shopping this weekend.......

I rotate through several diff pairs of shoes - I had bunion surgery several years ago & have a custom set of orthodics that need to fit into whatever shoes I have. I use Otomix for heavy squat days. I currently am in love w/ a pair of Rykka shoes cuz they fit my orthodics well and will rotate in a pair of SHOXX but they are a bit narrow and that starts to take its toll. I think the most important thing is that 1) your shoes fit, 2) you update them when they start to lose their cushion.

For squats and DL's I wear chuck T's old school converse pimp style. LOL

Cross trainers now are K-swiss.

Aand dam like those custome nikes :qt:

I wear corss trainers ONLY for weights. You should not wear running shoes for lifting, especially legs. Running shoes have a "lift" in the back, the padding, and can throw off your stance - like on squats. It throws your body toward the toes. Also, there is NO lateral support, so when doing any movements, you are at risk for twisting an ankle or at least, feeling unstable.

Nike Shox are normally running shoes. Cross trainers are typically flatter and better suited for weights.

I wear running shoes for most cardio - but not all. On the elliptical running shoes put too much pressure on the balls of my feet, so I wear cross trainers there too. ALso - for classes, such as kickboxing. Again, you do not want to wear running shoes for kickboxing (or most other cardio classes) - the lack of lateral support can kill an ankle.
