Training on empty stomach

I went to workout at around 4 pm the other day after having lunch around noon. Usually I eat about 1-2 hours before I lift to ensure I have the energy. This time I took some advice I heard on this board and used my cee about 30 min. before the workout on an empty stomach. This gave me the best chest workout I've had since my v12 days back in the spring. I felt great! I don't see how I did this on an empty stomach, but it sure did work. Can anyone explain how I had so much energy? Was it simply the cee?

Cee = Creatine Ethl-esther ?

Try it for other bodyparts/ workouts and find out if it was a fluke or not. Sometimes you just have a great workout!

I hate to workout on anything but an empty stomach. I try to eat really small meals leading up to my workout so I'm not real hungry but def. not anywhere near full. I always get tired when I lift with food in my belly.

CEE is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach to maximise absorption and effects so what you experienced is normal. However, it does not mean that you had a good workout in terms of development. If you restrict your nutritional intake then you are going to slip into a catabolic phase and any gains which you may make in muscle mass are going to be limited. Externally, you may be pumped but what will be happening internally is a whole different matter. You can still take CEE or other supplements on an empty stomach, just make sure you feed your body sufficiently throughout the day and especially post workout to maximise your development.

Ive actually read in one of my books that it is best to train on an empty stomac because when you train after you just ate alot of your blood goes to your digestive system and not to your muscles so when you train on an empty stomac all the blood goes to your muscles.

Personally I try not to eat within an hour hour and half of my workout, b/c if I eat sometimes I feel like i will throw up, after a hard set.

Sometimes I eat lunch and lift at 5pm and have nothing in between, except coffee and still have great workouts

I had a protein shake, some fruit, and some peanuts after the workout, so I don't think I went into a catabolic state.

That's good.
But I was referring to what you eat leading up to your workout as this thread was about 'Training on an empty stomach'. If you eat sufficiently leading up to your workout (not meaning eating as you are walking into the gym), then workout, and then follow with a post workout meal ... anabolism will exceed catabolism effects. If you don't provide sufficient nutrients and then workout, it swings the other way.

I always have a sufficient amount of carbs in my lunch, and it's always a pretty big meal. I know the feeling of a catabolic state and I was no where near it. My stomach just didn't have much in it at the time of cee consumption.

Tomorrow I'm going to try it again at a different split. I'll eat a big breakfast at 8:30 consisting of eggs, fruit, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, hashbrowns, and maybe some cereal along with a glass of orange juice and cranberry juice. I have class from 9-9:50. I'll probably wait until 11:30 to take my cee, then go lift at noon. It's big time back day tomorrow. "Yeah buddy, light weight!"

lately i have been working out at 9, 930 maybe, eating a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with mustard tomato lettuce onion, works good
