i beleive that the same principle applies when off of the gear...use weights=larger muscles.go for the rep and concentrate on form.in addition,DIET is the most important element to achieving your washboard mid-section.fyi
I train them on AS and have never seen that..i did notice my stomach sticking out more when my diet is not in line and i eat everything in sight though....I train them with weights also and have no complaints, i love the way the look....
I only know what I have been told and I was told that if you train your abs when using gear that they will become thick and big. Which is not what I want, I want to keep my midsection as small as possible.
So what you guys are saying is that even if you train your stomach on AS then its not going to get anybigger, but just tone up.
I train abs when on AS and they always look even better. Train them 2 or 3 times a week with high reps. Cardio is more important. Don't worry, you won't grow abs like Greg Kovacs.

Your abs, like any muscle, will respond to *correct* training and grow... If you're 5% body fat, that's fantastic-- you abs will look very, very well defined. If you are 15%, they can make you look like you have a bit of an "upper" gut...

If you want to keep your abs small, then do exercises that will allow you perform a high amount of reps. Do not use weights. That will keep them more cut. Performing ab exercises with using weights will make them thicker and bigger, which will show when you have a low body fat. Your abs can look good when you do not train them often and have a low body fat. It is all about having a low body fat. Some people have thick abs, but when there body fat % is high, they do not show. When there body fat is low, there abs look thick and large. They are just like any muscle in your body. When you are bulking up, you tend to do more heavy weight with less reps, when cutting you use lighter weight and perform more reps. Same goes for abs.
I think what your reffering to mainly would be obliques, with that in mind you really don't want to bulk them, your waistline will probably grow, but as far as crunches, hanging leg raises, cable cruches,etc..get on em, thick ripped abs are killer
