Tracking down an IP?

There have been numerous attempts to hack into my computer by IP 192.168.01

The latest were via trojan horses and portscan attacks.

Anybody know how to find out who the devil this is?

192.168.x.x is a private IP range. It is not and cannot be a computer on the internet. The attack is coming from within your own network. The following ranges do not exist on the real internet.....ever.

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

192.168 isn't routed, so it can't be from the outside. Do you have a linksys router or something?

Do you have a wireless router? Could be a neighbor picking up your signal.

192.168.0.1 would be the first IP in a subnet so my guess is it's your router. Linksys routers default to 192.168.1.1 but (I think) D-Link routers default to 192.168.0.1. I don't know about others. What brand do you have?

A large number of the routers from my ISP (Qwest/MSN) went down within a few months.

The new router they supplied (non wireless) will not work in conjunction with my D-Link.

I would no sooner have wireless than leave a door unlocked.

Get into your router and only allow access using your MAC Address. That will at lease limit who has access to the router!

if you are alone in the network, then your software firewall believes your router (most likely host with that IP in your case) is sending you an attack. First thing: Disable port forwarding on your router if you have no services that require it on your PC. Second: Tell the frigging software firewall to trust the non-routable ranges (those posted by DT)
