Total test or free test required??

I went to the doctor to request a blood test to check my testosterone level. He mentioned To me that a free testosterone test will be done. I'm pretty sure my test level is low. I requested Test Cypionate but of course the doctor want to see my level first. Fair enough. He also said he's not too familiar with this kind of request/subject. So is that the right test to do? Hope to avoid that my numbers are in the "normal range" but just a little higher than the minimum...., thx in advance

He's not familiar? What kind of doctor did you go to?

How old are you?

FYI. if a doctor tells you "i am not familiar" then you should probably find another doctor.

if you walked into brain surgery and the doctor shook your hand and said "i've never done this before but lets give it a shot" would you go through with it? some people would cause they are doctors after all and they went to 20 years of school so they must know what they are doing .. use common sense here bro

i honestly thought your post was a joke and you were going to use the punchline he stayed at a holiday inn last night.

I dont think it is that uncommon. These docs will order up a test and just use baseline numbers and make a decision based on simply that. I agree find a doc who know what he is ordering. When I was put on TRT my doc explained everything and had plenty of experience prescribing this kind of treatment.

I think there's some misunderstanding here. The doctor was correct in checking the free test because that's the only testosterone that's active. Maybe he meant he's not familiar with people asking for a specific type of testosterone. HRT is still new and most people wait to hear what the doc has to say. And he's not going to give you any answers anyway until he gets the numbers.

Thanks MH and Nelson for your constructive answers. If I wanted to post a joke, i would had posted in the joke section (if any)!

Anyways, English doctors in Japan are very limited so it's not that easy to find one.

I'll wait for the results then. Thx
