Going to toronto in july for a week with my girlfriend.. anyone have suggestions on what to do while we are there other then hump?

was looking for just something to keep us busy in the day.. both pretty easy going anything will entertain us.. but didnt want to walk around sight seeing for the entire week.. have the niagra falls trip scheduled in there.. we're from the mid-west and i dont leave my state hardly ever so sadly this is like my real first vacation :worried:

well your girlfriend will probably love the shopping... head down to Yorkville (bloor&bay roughly) for some of the nicest stores and restaurants Toronto has to offer. The waterfront is really nice in the summer but obivously that will involve walking. Hmm its funny but you never think about your city in a "what can i during the day" kind of way...
ill buzz in if i can think of anything else

thanks if it helps we are staying in the middle of downtown

There's Canada Day festivities early July, Edgefest if you're into alternative/rock, the huge Yonge street festival in mid-July, Caribana warmups end of July. The new Blue Man Group theatre will be open. Patios in Little Italy on College St. Drive/bus it a little north to Canada's Wonderland (theme park). Imax movies might be playing at Ontario Place. See what's on at the ROM museum, AGO art gallery.

check http://www.toronto.com/feature/13306/july_index.html for a calendar.
http://www.ticketmaster.ca too... lots of concerts.... Black Eyed Peas, Avril Lavigne, Buck 65, Doobie Brothers, Common, a wide range of artists.

Summer's short, so we try to pack it all in

Hit Yorkville resturant at least once I recommend Sassafrace. It is expensive but worth it. Then hit up Little Italy I can't think one bad resturant in that neighbourhood, also hit the Danforth great Greek food. Check out Kengsington Market for cool part of town vintage shops etc. Lounges on College St. are really popular and laid back. If you hit one club in Toronto I suggest The Guverment. Be sure to see the hockey hall of fame when your here. Oh and The Docks is cool place to hit too.

PM me if you want anymore info :)

If you're going to be in Toronto for one week, you won't have time to do many things.

Basically go up and down Yonge St. You can't miss it. It's the main strip where Eaton's Center is (big ass popular mall you must visit). Also check out the CN Tower and perhaps go check out a BlueJays game (get some cheap scalper tickets). Hit up Kensington Market for your little vintage shops and eateries. Check out the St. Lawrence Market for all your food necessities (they have EVERYTHING food wise). I suggest you hit the beach as well (Ashbridges Bay) and go for a trip on the boardwalk (a long path that runs along the beach/lake). By July it will be booming with volleyball down there.

If you want expensive then go to Yorkville, but personally I'd recommend the big malls (they are some of best in North America as is, so no need to go to Yorkville). Hit up Yorkdale (it's on the Subway line in mid-Toronto) and Eaton Center and that'll suffice for all your shopping needs. Oh and check out China Town on Spadina Ave.

Canada's Wonderland is our big theme park just north of Toronto. That'll be one day gone right there. If you plan on working out you should come to the gym I'm at as it's 24 hours and one of the best in Canada. You can get a week free.

I always see commercials for Sassfrace but have yet to check it out. I'll have to this summer. :)

It's Sassafrass, not Sassafrace. Very good restaurant if you're looking to spend an arm and a leg. Check out Gracie in mid-Toronto at Yonge/Eglinton. Very nice restaurant as well.

My bad, I copied QT's spelling ;)

North 44 is a nice restaurant but be prepared to spend an Arm and a Leg.

Be warned though, you might go home hungry like I did.

i had my grad dinner there... really good food but a touch skimpy on portions

If you're there for a week -- take a day off and head out of toronto and see 'real' Canada.

Head up north for some canoeing, boating, fishing, nature sight-seeing etc type stuff.

Oh and you might see Rocky & Bullwinkle. Or at least BigDawg. :)

The "walking around" isn't so bad, I probably walk from King St and hit Eaton Center on Queen, detour through the main club district, up to Chinatown, then Lil Italy, back to Yorkville in an hour. We're saying a lot of neighbourhoods but they change fast.

Green Mango (try the smaller cafeteria-style one not the bigger restaurant across the street) at Yonge&Bloor. Large portions of Thai food. Cheap.

(from that last website)
One more thing: There's a joke in Canada that the only thing all Canadians have in common is their dislike of Toronto. Perhaps you could say that most Canadians have a "love/hate" relationship with Toronto. A more precise description, though, would leave out the word "love". Since more than half of Canada's population lives between Quebec City and Windsor, political and economic clout is concentrated in that area. Western Canadians are especially pissed off by this reality, and their resentment towards central Canada is one aspect of "western alienation".

Haterz :)

19 is the magic number there or have they made it 18 like it is in Manitoba?

19 everywhere in Canada except Quebec and Manitoba (18).

Hmmm two biggest French speaking Provinces, lowest drinking ages......do I see a connection. Viva la French!!!

Actually 18 in Manitoba is only a suggestive age as we started much, much earlier here ;)

There's a dinner theatre called Medieval Times. Knights jousting in an arena in Exhibition Place, right next to downtown.

I've been there once. Quite entertaining and good ambiance.

Nutsack if you like gambling and horses, check out the Woodbine Racetrack to bet on horse races. They have slots there as well. It's right near the airport. I'm sure you'll check out the two casinos down at Niagara Falls as well.

Wow - A week seems like a long trip - Havent been yet but was debating going there in July - Somethings to do - Lots of stuff to look up on web - Actually if you go to FROMMERS website theres links - I think the website is torontotoursim has tons of stuff. I have found in most Canadian cities that something cool to do is leave downtown and find some ethnic neighborhoods. For example Montreal has a Little Italy or "Petite Italia" which is cool to walk around grab a meal, go to the market etc. I know toronto has one too plus if I am not mistaken a very large Polish neighborhood - What are the dates you are going?
