torn or strained deltoid

My friend thinks that he strained or torn his deltoid, minor as in mild not major. What can he do to heal the delt and will it lead to a permanent deformity as the delt grows? Also how will this affect his lifting in the future and has anybody had the same happen to them?

if he tore his delt he would know and he wouldnt confuse it w/ a strain.. a tear is serious business and will be out of lifting for a good while.. consult a doctor if he actually thinks its a tear

Yeah if it's a tear, then you will definetly know it. It will hurt like a son of a bitch and you would not be able to work out for a long time til it heals. Tell you ffriend to go see a sports med. doc. and he'll be able to instruct him on the best course of action to take.

Hes able to work out and its to a point where the pain has virtually subsided except for a little nagging shoulder pain. The point is that hes just worried and hopes that it dont cause him any obstacles down the line. At the time of the injry he felt a pop in his delt and the days afterwards there was pain. Oh yeah this was about two weeks ago. He went to the docs and they took an x-ray and they said they x-ray looks fine. I guess hes just worried that he strained it and that it could lead to a tear. His main concern is that it would lead to a deformity in his delt down the line. what do guys think?

x rays arent going to show muscle damage 1 and 2 depending on where the "delt" pain is it MIGHT be a rotator cuff injury.. i had a 50% tear in mine in high school from basketball and the pain was very intense some days when lifting and others not at all.. see a sport med doctor to get proper evaluation if he's relaly concerned.. rotator cuff injuries r very common

Hes highly ruling out rotator cuff because the nagging pain is in his delt muscle not the joints around the shoulder. Also he feels a difference in the structure of his left delt now compared to his right. He says the pain is really gone, its just the difference in his delts that are bothering him.

Well if its strained obviously using it is going to make it worse. I strained my pec over the summer, I tried all sorts of shit, the only thing that worked was not benching for damn near 2 months. It shouldnt be a big deal not to train Delts for a bit while it heals.

will the strain cause any deformities in his delt though, and can it still grow to its potential?

He needs a MRI to really get a good look at it. I blew a bicep once. Have him go to the sports med doc. Otherwise, he could fuck it up worse.

Ive torn both tricepts. The outer on my right and inner on my left. The experience is like an explosion or electrical jolt followed often by NO pain, but bleeding internally and visual black pooling the next day.

The muscle in my experince lifting the last 18+ years is that if its a tear, the muscle never 100% comes back in either strength nor original shape(but it may be close). It does in no way mean you have to quit lifting, just live with the difference. At least this has been my experience.
