too much water

is it possible to have too much water, and if so what are the negative effects other than just feeling a bit full.

or if u drink too much ull just piss it out

Yes, it can kill you. But I doubt you will drink that much. It's more of a danger to endurance athletes.

The risk isn't so much the water the change in body chemestry draining your bodies electrolytes. So if you do run a marathon and drink a lot of water, get your sodium tabs or drink stuff with a balanced electrolyte setup (Ultima Replenisher).

so like chugging a liter of water right now with my tuna in about 30 minutes isnt enough to kill me tho right?

like how much does it take or is it only work if ur sweating out all ur electrolytes without putting new ones in

I really doubt that you could do it like that.

If you've ever run a marathon in warm weather, you might get the desire to drink a LOT more water over a short period of time. Then it might be an issue.

When I was in a 45 minute spinning class, I'd regularly drink a half gallon of Ultima in that period of time. I sweat a lot.

I think the folks in this article drank several gallons because they were taking so long to run the race and would stop and chug.

That talks about the study that got so much ink. A lot of stupid people at the NYT gave it ink - even their editorial page talked about it.

The term is Hyponatremia if you want to google that.

The condition 'Hyponatremia' refers to a low sodium level within the blood. Although it can occur from drinking water to excess (hyperhydration) it is more likely to result from dehydration, diuretics, antidepressants, vomiting, diarrhea, severe burns, kidney failure or cirrhosis. To overcome this concern, endurance athletes will drink carbohydrate / electrolyte based drinks during the race as well as applying salt to their foods several days prior to the event.

Does anyone remember the thread which said gatorade and similar drinks adversly affect you. That sodium isnt the key to help you it is magnesium. I dont remember exactly there was a link in the thread to an article about it.

It's not really that hard:

I drink a 2 liters jug in the morning
a 2 liters jug in the afternoon
a 1.5 liter while training
a 1.5 liter with my PWO shake (0,75 mixed with the powder, 0,75 to wash down the SWEET taste from all the dextrose).

Total: 7 liters water: 1.849 US Gal... (damn I'm still a bit short)

The more is not the better

A lot of people don't drink enough
It's no reason for us to drink twice as what we need

You think I drink too much?... just got used to it over time... now with all these carbs I am thirsty all the time. One thing for sure, I'm not planning on drinking anymore than that

I did this thing my buddy found in a yoga book. (I am not advocating this by the way!) You wake up and before you put anything in your stomach you chug a gallon of water in 5 minutes. I couldn't get a full gallon down, I got over 3/4 though. You then wait another hour or so before putting anything else in your belly.

It kind of pressure washes your stomach/intestines. Shit (literally) that had been lodged in there is forced out by the high volume of water passing through your body. Not a very comfortable experience. When it's all done you get this strange kind of buzz off it. Hard to explain.

My point is that I didn't die from that. So you'd have to drink alot more water than that to kill yourself.

there was a fraternity hazing that killed a young 21 yr old male, he drowned internally, too much water they made him drink, he had 7 gallons of a period of 3 hours...so as long as you aren't close to that. What is the calculation of Liters-gallons. I usually drink over 4L per day?

Besides system depletion the other danger is similar to our frat boy above who was fine to begin with and became super hydrated by gallons of water forcing a layer of water between his skull and his brain which resulted in his death.

Thats a good idea i may try it. Does it make you feel good.

"Thats a good idea i may try it. Does it make you feel good."

yes, a wierd kind of healthy-feeling stimulation.

that is, after you get off the shitter. drinking the water is literally a painful experience. basically i came as close as i could to puking without puking. and then you feel is traverse your intestines, which is not the best feeling in the world. then you make a mad dash to the bathroom. after that you're hunky dory.
