too much protein?

New member
Is there any limit as to how much protein you should consume in one meal. Would making 2 sandwiches out of 2 cans of tuna for one meal be too much or am i ok.

Dont quote me but I think your body can only process about 50g uless you take something to aid the digestion process.....I believe ginger root is supposed to increase the amount of protein that can be digested......

diamonddiceclay, why 60-75 g ?
Arms246, why 50 g ?

I don't think there is a limit of protein that can be digested
I have never seen any study about it

And it would depend on your weight, metabolism, activity, genetics,...

They are just going by X's theory on it. Guy A says you can take in only 30g/meal, Guy B says 70... etc etc.

All those are a bunch of theories... What we need is proof not some dumb nut pulling numbers out of his ass.

just make sure you have a good fiber supplement... the more protein
real food should be allright (oatmeal, whole wheat bread, fruit and vegetables,....)

the tougher your shit should get!
why ???

carbs help out a little bit when it comes time to take a dump. Fiber helps the most... But yeah I notice it too when taking high protein and too little carbs or fiber, constipation is around the corner.

Doesnt protein convert into glucose if too much is eaten? RD

Yes.. and that's one of the biggest misconceptions on this board. Diamonddiceclay is one of the guys responsible for this. He thinks you can eat a ton of protein and not get fat. And that's simply not the case. Unused energy will get stored, it doesn't just magically get pissed out.

I was wondering

I was wondering what happened to it.....its also a misconception on the atkins diet also...........Thanks.rd

Yes, overdo any macronutrient (protein, carb, or fat), and the calories get stored as fat. However, with protein 25% of the ingested calories are "wasted" in the digestion process. With carbs, it's 10%, with fat it's 2%, I believe. So if you eat 100 calories of protein, 75 will be used as energy or stored as fat, whereas if you eat 100 calories of fat, 98 will need to be burned or stored. However, this does not give you permission to eat 200 calories of protein in place of every 100 calories of fat. I know this is oversimplified because we need protein for rebuilding tissues, etc, but that is the general idea.

I assume how much is appropriate per sitting depends on your individual body's needs and the type of diet you are on. If you have 400 calories to spend on a meal, there is no harm in eating 100g of protein and nothing else for the 400 calories. Even though only part of it will actually be used for rebuilding purposes, the rest will be converted to glucose for energy. If 400 calories is the right amount of calories for the meal, you won't get fat.

Seriously... I go around and read posts he writes... 90% of the time they are misleading and dead wrong. At one point I remember a bunch of members got together and told him to stop and his advice was full of b.s., he never stopped and he keeps doing the same crap.

Everyone is different

How much protein ones body can absorb depends on many factors. Your body wieght, you fat %, you metab. rate and what else your eating in your diet. For example, right now I'm eating about 300 grams of protein per day. But no more than 50g. per meal. But I'm wieghing 233 and have a low body fat %. A good way to balance it is to eat your body wieght in protien every day. even a little bit more. Keep doing cardo every day along with your wieghts and you'll get lean, hard, strong and still put on the size.
