Over the past few years I haven't been reading too many muscle mags. I was turned off by their obvious bullshit.
After Muscle Media 2000(best mag ever) went "natural" I stopped buying mags.
Today alot of these aren't just for bodybuilders...It seems every mag is half filled with silicone girls. I don't have a problem with beatiful girls..but they have their place(Playboy, Stuff, Maxim).
In mags like Ironman, Musclemag and Muscluar Development you see "soft porn photographs of strippers masquerading as 'fitness models' " (Shawn Ray quote).
Other mags like MuscleMedia, Mens Fitness etc. seem like they were written for newbies or the "average joe."
I have bought and read the past 2 Flex's and have actually enjoyed most of the articles and photographs. I used to buy every copy when I was a teen but got sick of the obvious bologna. But I would have to say that today it might be my favorite muscle mag.
I know it is basically a promoting arm for Weider, but every other mag also has its motives. And I must say they have not changed the look of the mag(bright primary colors and big block print) in quite some time. It may be time for a "facelift." And I truly believe the bodybuilders wear the funniest clothes imaginable. With their tight neon spandex and bright red otomix shoes...not too "manly" looking.
But in my opinion...Flex is the best of the bunch. So if you decide to spend you hard earned 4-6 bucks on a mag, and you haven't tried Flex in a while...I recommend it.(for now)
