To train with Cro Cop?

I got the e-mail from my coach on Monday afternoon - Cro Cop is coming to train with us, we need heavyweights!

I got really excited and was early for class, sure enough there he was - the Croatian Sensation, PRIDE open weight Grand Prix winner Mirko "Cro Cop".

I warmed up and prepared to spar with one of the best in the world. He had a small entourage surrounding him and helping him tape up. He circled the ring and jumped around warming up and then hit the focus mits for a while. I waited. The call never came - he did not want to spar or roll. He just wanted to hit/kick the pads.

Needless to say I was disappointed. He looked good and his kicks look powerful but I didn't get a chance to feel the power. My non-fighter friends thought I was crazy to want to get in the cage with him but I wanted to test myself. Others will never understand the mentality of a warrior.

I will have more chances to train with top guys in the coming months but this one is kinda unique. In the past couple of months we have had Chuck in before his Babalu fight and Ross Pointon training a little. If you guys ever come to LA you should make it a point of coming by.

Holy hell. I'm not even sure what to say other than that. I'm in your boat, I'd love to spar with him, for the exact same reasons. MAN! Cro-cop in your gym. That's incredible.

That school sounds top notch. They must have a serious cash flow going on there to bring in guys like that.

How is that new legends mma place? It sounds great, but its out of my price range, you pay a premium to train around those guys. But I'd do it too if I had the cash.

I love it, used to train at the Bomb Squad and 10th Planet which got absorbed into the new Legends. I got grandfathered in and still pay the old rates. It is very expensive but the level of the trainers is top notch. Karo Parisyan's MMA class is good which is useful with throws and transitions. Obvoiusly Randy is a wrestler and Bas is a striker but there are some other good trainers there as well. Most every student I have met has been really cool and ego's are checked at the door. We spar everyday. Always sore day after. If you don't like to be pushed this is not a good place to train. If you want to better your game this is the place.

No kidding...I checked the rates, and had to pick my eyeballs up off the floor. And I was worried about paying 50 bucks a month at two different gyms, LOL.

Now I understand how they can have the trainers they have, and bring in guys like Mirko.

Yeah, you guys stole him from Gokor's place in N Hollywood.

Gokor was running the grappling class at Benny "The Jet" Urquidez's Jet Gym on Saturdays. Gokor left and set up his own shop a couple of miles away. Karo used to come down to the Bomb Squad and roll with us as Eddie Bravo's no-gi BJJ is revolutionary and is perfectly adapted for MMA. I don't think it's fair to say that they 'stole him' but that he was given a better oportunity to run his own classes and not be considered just Gokor's star student.

If you were in his shoes which would you choose?

Whoa, no offense meant.

What are we talking here 2-300$ a month? Cause thats what it costs in my area to get trained by several instructors in multiple disciplines and we dont have anyone near the quality of the names you mentioned.

Im too old for that stuff but I enjoy working out in the same gym.

I'm sure Cro-Cop gets more prolbems sparring with people he doesn't know than just honest guys that really want to train with him. I'm sure he gets tough guys trying to test him or get the better of him sparring then if he knocks them out while sparring it could be a big mess.

I can understand why he didn't spar with anyone. It sucks for real fighters that are fans and want to train or spar with him, but there are too many stupid asses out there.

I thought he was still recovering from ankle surgery......which would explain why he wasn't sparring but..
