To those who are pledging

New member
wow... life has never been more hectic. I am pledging the Delto Rho chapter of the Kapa Sigma fraternity. I have lost 6 lbs since i started pledging and it is safe to say that my lifts have gone to hell. I am going fuckin' nuts? Who else here has pledged and how did you manage your sleeping/eating/training/studying/pledging. Life is rough but i am quite sure that it will all be worth the sacrafice in the end.
Now.... to start a motivational group...

Well, my only advice is to stick it out, but at this time you are pretty early into pledgeship so if things are bad now, just imagine them slowly getting 100 times worse.

They do it slowly so you won't suddenly want to quit. You keep the mentality that: "Well shit, I've come this far, why give up now" You will repeat that to yourself everytime you consider quitting, and trust me, QUITTING WILL CROSS YOUR MIND.

The whole point of pledgeship is to weed out the ones who don't 100% want to be an active. Sure lots of people want to be in a fraternity but not all can make it through pledgeship.

Try your best to keep your grades up or you will DEEPLY regret it by the time you are a senior and your freshmen GPA keeps coming back to haunt you and fuck over your overall GPA. Make use of the study halls. But the most important bit of advice I can give you is that:

Pledgeship is one big MIND FUCK. Don't lose your mind over this bullshit, keep a sense of humor, don't get mad, just laugh inside. (but certainly don't crack a smile on the outside)" They want to get to you, they want you to lose your fucking mind, don't let them get there. Always remember that they obviously like you because they gave you a bid so don't fall for the hatred that is rained down on you. Its all a big joke, keep a sense of humor and you will make it just fine.---Also, look at some of the dorks in the fraternity and remember that if they did it, so can you.

Best of luck.

wow-- it sounds to me that you are either a pledge master or currenlty a senior involved with pledging. Where are you associated and what are your letters?

Pledging to my fraternity was the first and one of the most exciting things to happen to me in college..

Get to know your pledge brothers because you will probably be friends with them for the rest of your college career, and some may turn out to be life long friends..

Pledging is an exercise of time management...its like a small taste of life..there will be times in your future when you have no time, your job sucks, your family is having problems, you're stressed out over bills, the car broke down, etc. etc. etc...

how will you handle it? Pledging is a small way to learn how far you can be pushed to the edge and maintain your responsibilities.

And trust me, you'll have funny stories to tell your friends/family for years to come.

Also, you'll grow a lot closer to your fellow pledges since you had to go through all that shit together..

Good luck man and here's an advanced congratulations for your activation.

Kak

I was a pledge, pledge trainer, and pledge master a couple years back, I'm a senior now but not really involved with the fraternity anymore. By the time you are a senior and actually 21 you grow out of the fraternity scene and go to bars. But my best friends that I go out with every night are old fraternity bro's.

You get lots of long lasting friendships out of it. I've taken so many road trips with this group. Mardi gras 3 years in a row, and Padre 3 years in a row, Mexico every now and then, New York, Vegas, ect. I wouldn't trade these times or friends for anything and I owe it all to pledging.

By the way, I'm at UT in Austin. Nevermind the letters, I don't want to incriminate myself.

Would someone please explain what a fraternity is all about? What function does it have? What does pledging involve?

I'm from sweden and we don't have that here.

Well before the fraternity bashers answer your question. Fraternities are different groups of guys ranging from around 20 to 200. To be in the group you have to pledge and be a bitch for a semester. After you are in, you pay a lot of cash and everyone's money goes to huge ass parties, sports vs other fraternities, events, house improvements--(some members live in the house, basically the base of the fraternity)

Basically when you are in a fraternity, you get a lot of pussy and drink a lot of beer, you have tons of fun. But lots of guys hate them because all the girls go to the frat parties and no outside guys are allowed in.

Hope this short explanation helps.

by the way, girls have their groups too, they are call serorities.

The fun starts when your fraternity has a "mixer" with a serority. The girls are usually hot because they don't let ugly chicks in. At the mixers its like 1 guy on 2 girls and tons of alcohol. Fun times.

That's the reason I haven't pledged I don't want to lose weight and strengh. But maybe I might pledge next year. Good luck

yea, we have a mixer this thursday
once you are a brother (and a pledge from what i have been seeing) girls are very "open". Personally, i have a gf who has been real tolerable through this and i don't see myself giving in. Actaully, it will be our 1 year on V-day. I won't be able to see her until Spring Break, but when i do it will be well worth the wait. God, i'm so damn lucky to have a girl to put up with all of this shit.
