Bro.....i dont know you at all and i dont wish to come across as offensive but i have to say this.Lately ive received a few p.ms` from you about plat members and bannings and all sorts of other nonsense.

Youre quite welcome to set down whatever rules you want around here mate-its your board after all,but why dont you try coming up with some better ones.Whats with all this plat bullshit anyway.No disrespect to anyone who wants to sign for up it but who are the plat members?.Do they know more than the rest of us????are they better in some way????do they have better ethics or moral judgement than the rest of us.I think not!Theres a vast number of plat members round here who dont even know what they are talkin about..........ive read allsorts lately ranging from "whats pct?", to "can u you drink winny"....all coming from plat members.And these are the guys you choose to moderate and decide on whats right or wrong and who gets banned and who stays???bro........im sure you have more intelligence than that.If you are looking for support for the forums itd be better to put it to the vote or go off reccomendations dont you think.Paying a monthly subscription doesnt automatically give someone expert aas knowledge OR sound judgement does it.

You know as well as I do that it is all about marketing; trying to get the power hungry types to go plat. It's been 4 months and I still have only 72 hours to take advantage of the savings on the lifetime membership. Unless each hour really translates to 2 days, damn, I better hurry.

I'm plat and really don't care for this bombing feature. I don't want "power"... I paid for this board to support it because I believe in it's use as a forum to exchange information.

Also -- it should take an act of god to delete or modify a thread. The rules for being able to delete a post should be very, very, very stringent (i.e. it reveals a source). As far as conspiracy threads, rants, and bad information go we should leave that stuff alone -- the members can correct that.
 
True a platinum membership doesn't make us any smarter, and true he is out to make money off us, but we pay because we are passionate about bodybuilding and aspects relating to the sport. I don't really care if he is profiting, the fact is that a niche is being filled and I am happy to pay it. I pay because I want to be part of a community, and because I pay and show a committment, we get certain features that non-plats get. This moderates the board and keeps the board from turning to crap and ensures that this board will continue to be good in the future.

It is just like any other club or whatever you want to call it, you have to pay your dues in order to contribute to the group. Who says that any joe smo off the street has any right to come off the street and do as the please. That fact is that it is a privilege not a right to be part of this board. And as a paying member I have a right to provide my input.

It is totally absured for someone to think that plats think they are smarter or have better ethics, the fact is that I pay and you don't. I am not smarter or have better judgement, I pay and I have a committment and an invested interest in seeing that the board continues to provide a quality environment.

As far as I know all the suggestions have been put to a vote, and plats should only be the ones who should be able to vote since we have proven, by paying, that we have an interest and a committment.
 
What about the people who have been here for a long time and have contributed mass amounts of knowledge to the board? Don't they have an interest and committment to EF?
 
Absolutely. But as far as voting and moderating it has to be left to plats. We all know who has been around, by there post count and how long, it is just when it comes to making changes and such, there has to be a safegaurd against people who maybe just post a couple time and then never see them again or people with bad intentions, etc... It comes down to, why am I paying?? there has to be something that sets paying and non-paying people apart. You've been around and are obviously committed, didn't mean to come across that way, my bad.

Here (IMO) are some great examples of nice things you can do for plats:

1) Implement quality of service (QoS) on the boards and segregate it by membership type. Plats get a slightly higher priority when pulling up pages. I'm not saying park non-plats, but give plats a 0.5 to 1.5 second leg-up on pulling-up a page.

2) Larger mailboxes (which I think plat does) as well as sorting mail by plat/non-plat. Have plat PM's show-up higher in the queue.

3) Posting limits... maybe restrict non-plat posts to X posts/day or X posts/hour (hell, I dunno... just throwing-out an idea on this one).

4) Double karma... I hate the idea of purely "buying" karma, but maybe karma given to a plat gets counted 2x... and maybe a plat can give 2x karma as well.

Stuff like that seems fair... I just don't like bombs and other forms of restricting speech.
 
No problem bro, I see your point, but I think those type of things should be left to moderators. I mean, anyone can come on this board and pay the membership fee. Then, what? All of a sudden they have the right to bomb people? It's not really a big deal, but I don't want to see it get carried away with all the plats bombing the non-plats over petty shit.
 
Yeah it should be left to the mods, but some times they are to busy or not around to react. I can't solely black out a post, I need other plats as well. From what I have seen, most people can pinpoint a retarted post when they see one. However, I see your point though how it might get carried away. Maybe they should re-vote and increase the number of people neded to bomb a post...instead of 4 maybe 8-10. Anyways take er easy guys, and happy new year.

i have alot of respect for the plat members that contribute to this board...i mean shit, before i joined this site it was like being in the dark...now im on this site daily, if not posting, reading...i love this site..it does make sence that plats should have more benefits then non plats.....but at the same time...rights like bombing people should be left to moderators. just my $.02
 
AMEN to the brother who started this post I didnt see this post before I wrote my dissertation of a post a sec ago.... this board is worse than reading a muscle mag with all the fake endorsments and products and services being force down you all the time...and you guys that do love this board I am sorry and mean not to be mean or hateful just the way I feel, but how can you guys know about the quality that this board lacks if you just been posting here the whole time. Ganryu sorry bro but you are the main thing I am talking about in my post...read it when you get a chance...just posting BAND! right after a guy is trying to make a point and he wasn't even trying to be a smart ass or anything like that but you ass was... I stay in MN a lot in the summers and I was suprised to see someone from there act like a total asshole because I love it up there.

thanks for the reply george.I understand where you are coming from but i still think its unwise to empower inexperienced and immature individuals.Moderating should be left to those with a calm disposition and good people skills,not to some star struck plat member with a "new found" sense of belonging.Before you know it people will be getting banned just for having a difference of opinion.I`ll give my trial run a spin and see what i think of it.Much appreciated.

after the member is bombed there is a short window where he can be voted off....its not as easy as u think....

just stay away from the chat section there is a couple guys over there that are dropin them for no reason
 
So a plat memeber can drop a bomb for no reason? I don't think I like that. Not that I'm a shit starter, but I don't want somebody to have the ability to 86 me from this board just because they may not agree with something I have said.
 
Personally I think the price of a platinum membership is quite high when I can pretty much do most of it for free. However, I can appreciate that improving the board costs money and GS needs to get that money back. Platinum or not it's a real good board although all the old members seem to have disappeared?

I've used this board for a few years and its helped me out CONSIDERABLY. For that reason, I am platinum, it was my way of giving something back. I try to help others out just as others helped me out, but I also realize that it takes time and effort to keep this whole thing going and coordinated. Sure, it is a business that some people are making money from, but I think a whole lot of good comes from it too. Almost everything I learned about training, supplements, diet, ASS, etc.. it all came from here, plus I've met some good bros and women as well.

Plus, didnt George pay to go to court to protect the ID of people who had posted about dnp, when the government wanted that info to go after people. Of course the board is always looking for ways to make cash

Already has happened to me twice. Somebody didn't like what I had to say, I wasn't vulgar, violent or threatening. Just differing opinions. I was banned twice.

You have to think about why only plat members can ban people: otherwise, someone can have 4 or 10 or 100 free identities, and really fuck up the boards!

Not many people are going to pay for plat twice in order to screw up the site now are they?

needsize, bicepts, they are absolutely right. This is a business, I'm sure GW's lawyers don't work for free. Whatever he can do to bring in more revenue which will in turn increase the quality of the board, I say god bless.

I really don't see many bombs on the AAS forum, which is where I usually am, so it really doesn't effect me. I think it is getting a little out of hand on the C&C board though.

Anyway, I couldn't give two shits about karma or being able to bomb people. However, I didn't know old Georgie actually went to court to protect the members. I'm gonna stop being a tight ass and go plat just for that reason.
 
WTF, apparently I'm the dumbest member on this board. I can't figure out how to go plat. I clicked on the package that I wanted, then scrolled down to the bottom.
It tells me to use my user name, but when I enter it, it tells me that that user name is already in use. It also tells me that my password is wrong. When I enter the email address that I have listed in my profile, it tells me that it doesn't recognize it.

So I call the number for help and get the answering service.

George, mods, can someone help my dumb ass out.
 
The purchasing system has a different username/password database than the forums, so you'll need to create a separate account in it to make your purchases. Took me a bit to figure out, too.

Maybe I could have made this clearer:

If you allow non-plat members to moderate the board, then some people will abuse this by using multiple usernames to drop 4 negative Karma bombs on people with which they disagree/ argue.

Someone that wants to mess up the site could have dozens of usernames and start nuking out all of the good threads.

If only plats have the right to do this then they will have to pay for the right to have multiple accounts - very unlikely.

imho.....the only people that should have any kind of say in what goes on are the mods and possibly vets who`ve been around a good while.If issues arise within the forums then they should be contacted.I know they aren`t around much these days.....but you can bet your bottom dollar that if you send them a mail,they`ll see it.Just coz they dont seem to post much...doesnt mean they aren`t lurking about.

Moderating is for moderaters!END OF STORY!

You're right, we are nothing without our amazing members - but the fact that we have so many members and that they spend so much time here is one reason the site costs so much to run.

Explain, how does it? i assume you have your own server? i know quite a bit about the web etc having 4 sites of my own, how does it "cost so much to run" and dont hit me with bandwidth, if your saying that it costs so much to run then your doing something wrong, the price for a plat membership is rediculous and I dont think ill renew, afterall you get nothing special, you can still get banned, you can ban other people - which i think is wrong anyway, ive asked several times for a new forum which i believe is part of the plat membership and yet NOTHING!! your so-called george given powers dont work and in fact this site is by NO means a democracy because you classify people into the ones who donate to your pocket and the ones who dont, further you suruptitiously try to convert ordinary members to plat members by threatening the ordinary guy with bombs, ive never seen such shit politics on any BB forum - you are a complete control freak.

I agree with you completely. There are some out that may not like the fact I am a gay male, and they may drop a bomb on me, for that reason alone...I dont think it would be fair to me or others who have different views on life... :rainbow:

Ouch! Tell me how you really feel.

I understand that 28 cents a day can add up. But I would respectfully disagree that you get nothing in return. Platinum features include a 5000 PM mailbox, live chat, the stealth site ExpertPCSupport.com, unrestricted search, your own discussion board, the private Platinum Boards, full size pics, no ads, bonus reports, and fun stuff like Karma, glowing stars, and bombs.

Digger can better answer the question of why it costs so much to run the site, but I'll give it a try - Digger, feel free to pitch in.

1. The site is WAY to large to run on just one server. Currently it takes eight servers to run Elite plus additional hardware to load balance them.
2. We have a consultant who does nothing but manage the forums' code base - because it needs lots of attention. We have another guy that handles the galleries. And two more guys that do systems admin and database management.
3. We provide customer service. Many other sites do not provide any, but you can call us toll free at (888) 613-8959 at any time if you're having trouble with your account.
4. Like any other business, we have a lawyer, accountant, customer service reps, office, phone bill, utility bill, and such.
5. Our ISP bill is huge. We are located at a tier 1 facility that can provide us with enormous amounts of burstable bandwidth, tech support, redundant power, dry fire suppression, advanced security. You may remember, we were online throughout the 9/11 crisis and the New York power outage.

Regarding your suggestions for a physics board and a drug rehab board, I would feel more comfortable adding these if you had two other Platinum Members that would help you moderate them. My concern is that traffic to them might be limited since there are so many other sites that do both physics and substance abuse so much better than we could. But if you find the other Plats to help out, we can give them a try. We are looking to create a new Platinum forum for Personal Trainers though and would welcome your help in moderating any of our existing Platinum boards - just let me know which ones.

We have always welcomed our gay members, something many other bodybuilding sites have never done. In fact, we have had an HIV and Anabolic Steroid forum since almost day one - ten years ago.

Remember, it take 4 bombs for anything to happen at all, so I don't believe there is much chance of your views being suppressed. But if it happens, let me know so I can step in.

I would hope it won't happen because someone is gay but it is being abused. People are getting bombs on a daily basis because a platinum member didn't like what they had to say. I doubt that was your intention as to their use. An example was a non-platinum member with the handle Allon. He was bombed repeatedly for expressing some views that were unpopular. One of the platinum members bombing him made some racially offensive remarks for which there was no recourse. I don't think you can trust some of your platinum members to responsibly help you moderate. I would suggest you leave the bombing/banning to moderators and if further help is needed, to some mature senior members you and your staff know well as conscientious people and contributors to your site.
 
First of all, I've posted before that I don't think plats need a "bombing" ability and I also think mods should never modify or delete a post unless 1) It has noting to do with the forum or 2) It compromises a source or member's identity.

Now... getting past that:

I see these posts periodically (not just this one) screaming about plat upgrade costs and/or sponsorships by specific companies. They always end up with the inevitable conclusion that it's all about greed and selling-out.

Did I miss something? When did making money become a bad thing? Do we deposit our paychecks at a bank that's about to go bankrupt? Do we buy a new vehicle from a car manufacturer that's about to go out of business? Businesses have an obligation to make money. We should be celebrating business that make money. Businesses that make money have the resources to give their customers the products and services they want.

Look at it from an owner's perspective: If you are making good money, you'd never kill the goose that's laying golden eggs by not upgrading servers, insuring high bandwidth and providing good customer support.

Now, before we get all paranoid about a company making "too much" money, consider this. How hard is it to setup a message board? How hard is it to set up an internet connection? How hard is it to find some moderators? This board doesn't have an exclusive hold on the AAS community -- it has to compete every day. I worry less about them making extraordinary returns and more about them generating a revenue stream that is compelling enough to keep the boards fast and reliable.

Anyway... i'm off my soapbox now. Just wish this damn winny shot would settle down. Maybe that's what's got me riled-up.

If that was the case then everyone who uses the smiley icons, in the same affect would be cramming their smiley down you throat as well.

Thanks George, I really do hope that No one would drop a bomb on me , just for that reason alone. I have noticed that there are those that don't like the way I like to express that I am a gay male.They say it's cramming it down their throats.... Just worried about the bombing stuff. I am also very glad to see you have a form for the HIV people on the board. :rainbow:
 
Well, the truth is that there are people who will probably drop a bomb on you for being gay. But, one bomb doesn't do much of anything. And we have mods to make sure nothing gets out of hand. In fact, we have gay mods - at least I think AAP is gay and I believe a few others. Of course, you could always upgrade and become a Platinum Member and then drop some bombs yourself. I know there are a few folks here that could really use a good bombing!

the picture and the flashy RAINBOW face ARE ramming it, just try to be a PERSON you dont have to be GAY all the time, you know you are still just human - not in anyway unique or special because your gay, your just a person, no more, the gay rights, and proud to be gay are now tiresome just be a person, like everyone else because your NOT special anymore, not even as special as skateboarding, we dont care - jumping is in now!!

I don't claim to be any more special then all the other people here on the form. The smily face is only that "A smily face" only mine happens to be gay. I won't ever give up on Gay rights either. Our time will come when we get the same respect as married couples. That however,is another subject. I will stop saying I'm gay, when everyone stops knocking me down for doing so.
