To all guitar playing bros out there

been picking it up alot more lately. just started playing in march, but i had been working so mcuh that i took a long break. now i play a few hours each day. been playing a few songs such as standard lines- dashboard confessional. oasis-wonderwall and title and registration - death cab for cutie. looking for some new songs to play. i can play most of those first three pretty well. im working on time of your life by green day. need a couple other songs to work on. i dont like just playing power chords. my favorite bands have crazy guitar (aka coheed and cambria and muse) so i cant really play too much of them. i need some stuff that is a bit harder then the first ones mentioned but not overly simple, like i say playing 2-3 power chords forever is not fun and is no longer pushing me to get better. my goal is to be able to play the solos to coheed and cambria - welcome home EVENTUALLY.

btw my favorite bands are incubus, jimmy eat world, coheed, muse, the used, death cab, red hot chili peppers those are just a few so feel free to recommend any of that plus any other stuff. links to reliable tabs for the songs would be helpful too! thanks

you need to bridge the gap to soloing. Start with some classic minor pentatonic riffs. 1:Learn the minor pentatonic, aka "blues" scale. 2: Learn an AC/DC or Led Zeppelin solo that uses the minor pent. After that you will be 75% towards the artists that are your goal. And in case you don't know, perk is joking. I would stay away from dimeola or any other jazz artist until cambria and other pop rock seems limiting. You need to have all major/minor/dominant/mixolydian/lydian/locrian/diminished/altered scales under full command and all the arpeggios for the same . . . Start with one scale, not 50.

I went into my Bearshare, typed in "guitar solo" and ended up with some unbelievable video clips from big name players. Highly recommended.

try Unintended by Muse. It'll really help with your picking and speeding your hands up but its a pretty easy song at the same time

Ever hear of guitar gym? It is really really really helpful. Bros I cannot tell you how much it helped me. I am adding a screen shot on just the techniques I am working on with this program, It also includes Audio and pdf files including tabs.

Boring, but it is a gym for real. You hands don't feel like they are yours.
