i expect my current df 5x5 cycle to come to an end in the next couple of weeks, i then have an extra 3 or 4 weeks before i go on a 2 week holiday where there will be no training. obviously theres no point starting a 5x5 cycle before the holiday, i want to use the 4 weeks i have productively but not sure how to go about it? any advice would be welcome. cheers. tom

Isn't that the perfect way to spend the time? The volume phase gets you stronger, but the strength is masked by the fatigue. The second half is either a deload and peaking phase, where you work up with triples over 4-5 weeks, or a pure deload phase, where you purely deal with the fatigue for a week or two.

I say use the experience you've just had to gauge burying yourself to a nice level that requires at least a week to deload. Build muscle whilst lying on the beach - what can be better? ;)

Didnt look at it that way, these things seem so obvious once you ve pointed them out, cheers for the great advice as usual AB. Tom

I bought a copy of Men's Fitness once (but never again) and it had that exact advice. It was all about building muscle whilst not working out, as though it was somehow magical. They didn't discuss dual factor theory though. I guess good training and supplement catalogues don't go hand in hand.
