see the problem with allowing US citizens to buy perscription meds from cheaper countries are that the $$ the companies make from there US sales is the majority of what they use for future R&D. the US is the largest and wealthiest market the companies have to seel thier prodcuts in. if we did not subsidize the R&D by paying premiums there would be 0 incentive for the companies to contiune to come up with new drugs. so while in the short run it would be sweet to have cheaper medicine, in the long run, unless a better idea can be thought up, we are better off paying the higher prices and getting constant improvements and breakthroughs with medicines. so while on the face it seems unfair, and probably is, i think it is better then the current alternatives
