Thyroid cancer question.......

PBR

New member
hey guys need some help here...have a friend who had his thyroid gland removed due to cancer...he is on Synthroid @ 75mcgs ED....he is gaining weight-fat, not at an alarming rate, but just a little, and as a result of his treatment, has put on a few extra pounds....

he would like to get a supplement to help burn the fat...his diet is very clean...we thought that "Thermorexin" might be in order, but on the bottle it says not to administer if you have thyroid disease....he has no thyroid- would this/ could this be harmful??? if he decided to use it??

could we attack from a different angle using tyrosine, gugglesterones and Kelp to assist the conversion of T4 into T3?....... ie; making his supplemented T4 (synthroid) more efficient...thanks.

actually all stimulant use is precluded, by general practice, if you have certain thyroid conditions. If he does not have a thryoid its not an issue. Though using thryoid meds can increase stimulant effects.

if he has had a complete thryoidectomy, taking kelp(iodine) wont do anything (there is no gland produce the enzymes to convert them). Tyrosine will help with keeping neurotransmitter levels at more normal. Though switch out Altyr for tyrosine. Guggulsterones have little research to support any effect on thyroid, at least nothing thats been proven. Its quite likely that most of its "heat" effects are derived from its progestenic activity.

Sounds like he's not getting enough thyroid meds. I also had mine removed due to cancer and it took a long time to get the proper dose regulated. Clen works for me now, he may want to try that.

Wow 75 mcgs sounds like a lo dose.
A lady at work is on synthroid (she had a benign growth on both sides of her thyroid and a goiter removed 8 months ago) and she is 150 lbs and takes 175 mcgs a day of synthroid.
She told me it took them 6 months ot get her levels correct. How long has his gland been out?

He needs to have his doc adjust his dose upward. 75 mcgs/day is not much. I take 250 mcgs/day of T4 and I had my thyroid gland nuked when I was 14. No over the counter supplements will do much. The thyroid controls your metabolism.

Hey mak when you say nuked did they kill it off with radioactive iodine-common in children?
Did they change your dose over the years?

this kinda off topic but I know a couple of people with goiters that they control or keep from growing with thyroid meds...one lady at work is a pretty hot and in great shape and she told me she is on T3 prescribed to "shrink her goiter and keep her thyroid suppressed...but all in all his doc should prolly increase his dose.

Yes. And it took about a year to balance out. It sucked. My weight would fluctuate on a weekly basis. They use Triiacana, or T2, to suppress the thyroid gland when people have thyroid cancer. T2 is more suppressive than T3, but is only half as strong. That's why I've never recommended anyone take T2.

thanks guys...his doc has him on 50mcgs...he was complaining that he had no energy still..he increased the dosage himself...he feels alot better...i'll talk with him tomorrow and find out a little more info on his doasge...he said this still is not enough @ 75mcgs...

I fucking hate most docs. They never have people take the dose that they should be on with thyroid meds for fear of a lawsuit. I just self dose now and have my levels checked once a year.
