Outdoors bros....let's discuss. Best company, best steel....just what to look for in general for an all purpose outdoor knife. I don't need a Rambo style combat knife or some stupid klingon double blade.

:coffee:

i work outside in mtn timber everyday.
leatherman blast is what i prefer, not the most tricked model, but reasonably priced...i always lose them.
but the thing is solid and has the attachments you need
(saw, knife, can opener, sisscors, pilers, pookey thing...

I have a Leatherman Juice. It's good shit for all purpose utility. The only downside is it's orange in color. It was free though. You really can't go wrong with anything Leatherman.

I use a SOG Aegis as my everyday carry knife. Benchmade makes nice knifes too. I dropped my $100 Benchmade Griptilian in the river :(

what kind of steel do you want for a knife? I assumed 440 stainless as that's what I thought was the best steel out there for a blade....was looking at some ka bars today and none of them appeared to be 440. In fact there was no marking on the box whatsoever on what kind of steel it was. I don't want a swiss army style fold out knife, but something that comes with a few extra's in the sheath like a compass, flint and whatnot. Something that you can use the butt end to hammer as well so nothing dinky but also not looking for a samurai sword.

i'm thinking you may need something more, like Teh Jacket.
the zippers are detachable and can be used as knifes and together form a small axe.
the leather is coated with mercury which naturally points Teh Jacket true north.

OMG, I would die in that thing where I'm going. This thing is a little bit big for my needs....but fuck that handle guard is pure sweetness..

Eagle Hand Guard Bowie Knife

damn that's serious bizness
i need more utility in a knife, i hate having to carry one as it is.

I agree, I'm jus sayin that if I ever run into crocodile dundee with that thing.....he can't punk me. jus sayin.

I'm looking for more of a utility knife too...but I like the finger grip handles that some of the combat style knifes have.

We all carried a leatherman when I was in the army....if you want to roll old school you can pack a bowie...

Preferably one that in the hollowed out handle you can store a first aid kit, spare matches, fishing line and hook, C-ration and a small bit of C4.

You need to be appointed official spokesman of Teh Jacket. I will ask it if thats ok.

I just posted this in the ammo thread. But this is a pretty damn good knife and the price can't be beat. Read the reviews. I'll copy and paste my other post:

I'll second cheaperthandirt.com

my goto site for anything gun related - have some great knives as well.

purchased this knife recently:

DBA-444 - 13.5" Overall Bolo Rough Use Knife Thick 8" Blade with Nylon Sheath

Cheap as shit so I don't have to worry about if it breaks, I'll just buy two more. It's sturdy as hell and received great reviews. Took me about 30 minutes to get a good edge on it tho.

& a couple blood grooves as well so that the blade doesn't get stuck when you're stabbing people in the face 'n' shit.

I was about to say thats gotta be cheap steel. No way top of the line 440 stainless is going for 10 bucks at an 8 inch blade. Still...that's pretty fucking cheap..lol
