This is such F'N BULLSHIT!!!

Chicago — In a 1999 major class-action settlement, the Clinton administration agreed to pay $50,000 to each black farmer who had suffered discrimination at the hands of the federal government. As of 2001, some 40,000 people have applied for their cash.

The problem is, according to the Census Bureau, there are only 18,000 black farmers in the country.

Gary Grant, for example, sees no problem with black non-farmers getting their share. Even if all 40,000 claimants aren’t strictly tillers of the earth, Grant said every single one of them deserves a payment.

"If you are an African-American, you deserve $50,000 because your roots are in farming and your folk have already been cheated," he said. "You are collecting what your grandparents didn’t have the opportunity to."

Reparations. Hmm. I wouldn't think they would be necessary, however...

Didn't Jews get money?
Don't Native Americans get Casinos?

Why is it that we want to deny Blacks so bad, but don't argue against paying other creeds/races for their suffering?

The reason is because of guilt. Denial of guilt makes things easier. The reparations aren't really the point...it is that Blacks want to be acknowledged for their suffering.

Early Americans weren't much better than Hitler, by accounts that I've been reading...note my current book indulgence which details the horrors of slavery as well as a good grounding in history from a non-white perspective:

Comparisons of early Americans to Hitlerism may seem far-fetched, but when you actually read a book or two on the subjects, you realize that Americans are just not ready to deal with the guilt of being so awful...while at the same time going to the rescue of other races.

Which brings me to the question: Eastern European wars that the US gets involved in .... similar atrocities happen in Africa....why don't we go there also?

whatever. I never expect anyone in denial to get better until they admit they are sick. Reparations won't come until the denial is over.

And by the time that happens, we'll have a Black president.

Clever girl , strong chick ,
great that someone can step back and see the anomalies that exist. Of course it is nonsense to see what occurred in Germany during the war years and America during the civil rights period as seperate issues. The systematic suppression of a people by a dominant one is plain old racism. At least one should be consistent when applying "the rules".

I don't think any denial is going on. I honestly dont want any of my money that comes out of my paycheck going to pay reparations for slavery. I didnt own a slave, my parents didnt own a slave, neither did their parents. They werent even in the US. Why should we have to pay?????Its our hard earned money and I didnt nothing wrong.
If you want someone to take the money from, take it from families that have been here before the civil war era. Just add an extra tax to them to pay for this slavery crap, but dont tax me, I never owned a slave.
Jews were givin money because it was theirs in the first place. They put it into Swiss banks to protect it before WW2, but it was always theirs to begin with.
Same is true for the native americans. We gave them that land because they were basically theirs first. I think our human rights treatment back in the day was terrible but so was every other countries. That was the time.
:fro:

Victus , you are factually incorrect , the reparations to Jews have been paid by German companies , most of whose shareholders were not even alive during the War. As far as I know there are no Swiss banks who have made payments , but I am open to correction.
Furthermore the latest round of reparations are not for deopistors money , but exactly the use of Jews as labourers in German factories.
It ain't that I think you should pay , it's just that I think the same rules should apply to all , and not as in Animal Farm , "All are equal , but some are more equal than others".
Peace
