This Is Just For You

I could not fuckin agree more!

That is just ONE of the many reasons I've not watched TV for near 10 years now. Hell there were many years that I didn't even own one. Imagine - a one bedroom apartment with one adult and 4 children and NO TV.... my goodness how did we survive?!

Even now I have ONE TV in my home and rarely is it used.

My last job I was a Maintenance supervisor for a rather big apartment complex, 500+ apartments, and over the last year I was probably in at least 70% of those units. There wasn’t one single apartment that didn’t have at least a 42” flat screen or bigger in the living room and most of the time in the bedrooms as well. It didn’t matter how old, young or poor the people were, they had one.

It's really sad how people are being *programmed* and they don't even get that. :whatever:

When people found out I had *all those kids* and no TV they "felt sorry for me" and many offered to buy me one. I was like, "Ummmmmmm no thanks. Why would I need one of those and what does the number of kids have anything do to with it? I have plenty of books and a library card." So they said, "Well what do you all do?"

LOL

I said, "I TALK TO MY KIDS."

Then the deer in headlights expression continued.

So I asked, "And do you know what I do when they talk back to me?"

*crickets chirping at the deer now*

I LISTEN.

Oh yea... and I read to my kids every night, right up until the day they were taken from me. My oldest was 13 1/2. I'd been reading to her and her sisters most every night they were with me since she was old enough to sit up.

HAHA that's so awesome, and it's sad, because it's true. NO TV? YOU POOR THING, YOU MUST BE GOING THROUGH SOME REAL HARD TIMES

atleast you were doing the right thing, only way you can look at it

LOL I mean, I was really poor but that wasn't the point. Funny how everyone ASSUMES you are really REALLY poverty level if *you can't even afford a TV*. We couldn't afford internet (until my mother bought us a computer which was really nice of her). So we would go to the library couple times a week for homework and whatnot. It was kinda neat in that there was no *fighting for the computer*. Each kid "had their own". Yup, the public library is a beautiful thing!

Now I live fairly comfortably and still - ONE TV in the house. (It was my husband's - if it were up to me we wouldn't even have that one).

There will be no others in my home - period.

Why would I need one when I have a media room that can comfortably seat up 20 people or so?

bm, i must politley lol at your raging against television.
don't you think onlining is just as bad?
it's a replacement for tele, makes one just as stupid imo

Nope...

I am not raging against TV as I dont care if you have 15 in your house.

The internet is *sort of living and breathing* as it is interactive. Whereas the TV is controlled stimulation one way.

Either way though, if you don't have a brain and can't think for yourself you are fucked... don't you agree?

It could be looked at as another form of wasting time, but not even close to tv, you choose what to look at and what sites to go to for entertainment. Tv you have one, maybe two channels for learning, everything else is pointless entertainment telling you what is in, what is out, what to buy, how to act, how and when to fear. The news is a political propaganda machine just like that video said. They feed you with what they want you to eat, their information, not the truth. It’s in every way a form of brainwashing. The internet you can search many different views, get other peoples opinions etc. the internet is what YOU make it. Not what someone else wants you to believe.

Very true...

Yes the internet is very good at robbing people of all sorts of time. However, the internet has also made the world a whole lot smaller - e-commerce, boards like elite, and all the sites that diseminate information. If someone is not bright enough to do proper research or spends most of their time serfing for porn or just escaping from reality then true, it ain't better than the tube.

The tube and internet can be equally wastefull and cause you to be dumbed down, however, they are NOT interchangeable in that the internet can truly change ones life for the better.

Anyone in school knows they can not get through without being computer literate anymore. Hell, you won't be able to get even the simplest jobs without a certain degree of internet saavy soon. Can the same be said about TV?

yeah i agree, it is a bit more interactive.
but for me personally, onlining has replaced tele as my form of slacking.
