That's because I already donate money, etc to the Humane Society, feed stray cats, all my pets are rescues, check the labels for "not tested on animals" and when possible, buy meat that's Organic or cage-free etc etc.....
Unfortunately the propensity of Americans to be unwilling to pay a high price for meat will most likely not result in more humane/sanitary, etc methods of raising animals for food goods any time soon......

Yes, for the 20th time animals should be treated humanely. It goes beyond just meats & clothing.

Another point I was making, I just don't see how someone can say "Save the Minks" and then go "ooh ahhh" over a diamond that was mined by a maimed child. How can anyone question my  for fur and get on their soapbox, when they can't confirm that an animal did not suffer to make most of the goods or at least one good they consume. How can anyone say "Save the Minks" yet get in their gas guzzling SUV and add more cars to road thus harming the air that we and the minks breath.

I just don't get it.

The Industrial Revolution was also guilty of horrendous human exploitation. We are saddled with corrupt labor unions today as a result of that, because of the need for an entity that was strong enough to fight back. The Industrial Revolution is hardly a shining example.

100% misinformation and pro-worker prooaganda.

The "exploitation" you talk of was actually an IMPROVEMENT in the lives of most people. Yes, people worked in factories - 7 day weeks for 12 hours a day. Yes, they worked in slaughterhouses that would make people cringe today, and yes, kids worked in factories.

This enviroment was actually an INCREASE in standard of living. This replaced AGRICULTURE - the most grueling lifestyle there is; farming as a means of subsistence is far more rigorous than any factory job. These factory jobs that you call "exploitation" finally removed man's dependence on Nature for food - no longer would people starve because of drought or other agricultural issues. These people flocked to the cities for this work - they were not pulled out of some paradise.

A similar phenomenon is going on in China today. Younger people are leaving the farms in droves to work in shitty (by US standards) factory jobs. And lie Americans 100+ years ago, the factory workers LOVE their jobs and wouldn't dream of going back to agriculture. The Industrial revolution was harsh, but it was a cake-walk compared to what it replaced.

As for the oft-cited child labor, I know you are familiar with John Locke's advice that "all children above age 3 should be schooled in use of the loom".

Child labor ENDED with the Industrial Revolution. Before that, every child was expected to work on the farm as soon as they could walk. The free market stopped child labor, because it put enough wealth into enough hands so that kids did not have to work.

You are kidding me right? Are you really that shallow over clothes?

You do realize the power behind the american consumer and what they buy and where they choose to shop. BIG POWER in consumers.

American car dealerships used to crash test their automobiles with dogs and chimps in them. It was stopped...guess why?

Maybe the car companies should start doing that again. America's car companies have been shrinking for 30 years, and are nearly irrelevant these days. They need some new ideas to rekindle people's interest.

A sure fire way to set mankind back 1,000 years. Maybe more.

I bet you've never killed your own food.

I don't think people realize that the American workforce has been undergoing another revolution for almost 20-30 years (if not longer). . . The Knowledge-Based Worker Revolution. Its a slow one and has required a change in thinking amongst the workforce. I think it will require the retirement of an entire generation to hit its peak. I believe more people need to catch on to this or they will be left behind.

People realize it, but instead of increasing their education and skills, they complain and bitch and ask for protectionist measures, which in the long run harm everyone. (right, GM?)

A lot of American workers are in some deep doo-doo, and they seem to be running to Big Brother for help, rather than looking at their own abilities.

I think younger workers understand what is going on. But unforunately, older American workers have yet to catch on or its too late for them.

I agree that many Americans have the mindset that 4 years of college are enough. Yet, 2 years into a job they are obsolete and they either don't know what to do or want to do it. So, they complain.
