I think animals should be killed humanely. Always. I've killed lots of little critters in a lab setting...all humanely.

But I've also done a lot of dissection of animals from places that took their fur. The first thing you do in a dissection is skin an animal anyhow. I'd rather work on animals than humans any day because you have to be so much more careful with human tissue. You learn more when you can really dig in. I know it sounds gross but it's necessary.

And anyone who says someone studying something medical should just use computer programs or watch videos scares me. I can play oregon trail but that doesn't mean I could probably handle heading out west in a wagon.

Everyone here knows I'm nuts about my dog. He's like a child to me. But I could wear a papillon coat and not feel guilty if they were raised for their fur and killed humanely.

You know that's an interesting post. When I was in college, I walked out of Biology labs because I refused to do certain things regarding animals. I found it over the top and unnecessary. I took the condescending remarks my professors gave to me (along with the lower grade for missing the lab) and I took the smart ass remarks from people more concerned with their med school GPA than their values.

Today, most of those people never even made it into a profession they like and I'm sure my professors are still condescending little good old boys. I have my dream career researching/learning on animals with a job I love. I do plenty of necropsies on marine mammals, research on marine mammals and I am learning marine mammal medicine. I never once compormised my vales on another life to achieve my goals.

People get all freaked out at animal rights like it's really freaking hard just to respect living things.... that share this earth with you. Good grief, it's not that hard.

IMO your acting just as crazy as the die hard animal torturers even if your approaching from the other side

In any issue, extremes meet.

I don't think animals should be treated poorly, but in many situations, where you have animals raised and farmed for their meat or fur there is going to be some shit that happens.

I have little if any difficulty dealing with western-style animal harvesting. These are animals that, in the wild, would be prey species and would be killed and eaten by large predators.

i wonder how many people would be willing to get their hands dirty and do their own killing?? how many would kill and skin what they needed? how many could euthanize their own pets?? that's my question. seems everyone is cool with it until their looking something in the eyes.

I held my Momo on my lap when I had to put her to sleep in March while the vet injected her.......it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

that's different, it's the same as being bedside when someone dies. i'm asking who is willing to do all of these things that they otherwise accept?

If I had to do it for survival, I would do it. But since there are corporations & industries like Perdue, the Cattle Industry, the textile industry, I don't have to. See that's it, Americans have become so domesticated and PC. In other countries and cultures, killing an animal for food & skin isn't an issue.

My Mom had my dog euthanized yesterday. They didn't do it, but they were standing right there. It was either that or the dog would suffer a painful death.

If you can for one second support an industry that makes money off the way it treats another LIFE.. a heart beating, pain feeling life...than you SERIOUSLY have more deep seeded issues as a HUMAN BEING than wearing a fur coat.

Actually, I work for an industry that makes money off the way it treats another life. Its called the hospitality industry. I'm going to assume, you are talking about negative treatment of another LIFE. I'm also going to assume you are including HUMANS. What about an industry that treats people worse than animals to produce enough goods for profit?
