This image pretty much sums up the Tsunami tragedy..

whoever makes that website has serious issues, the sickest things I've ever seen in my life are always on ogreish.com

If you notice -- it's all mainly wood aruond them. meaning they lived in some pretty squalor conditions.

If they had just lived in those other houses above -- all they had to do was climb to the roof and they were safe.

Their "poorness" and living in huts near the beach where it's easy for them to take baths every morning -- became their downfall and demise in this tragedy.

Maybe now their corrupted governments will take millions of poor people out of shanty huts, and put them in real housing with phones and electricity and running water.

Ah hell, who am i kidding. They'll be back living in huts near the beach by next year, waiting for another tsunami. Governments there don't give a squat about their poor.

I like your response. It makes sense. This means that you'll be attacked soon.

Too many people in one world.

So why do people care if a 100K wash away?

I wish it was more like 500 million.

Because average I.Q. doesn't mean "intelligence"
lol

disagree, those "houses" behind them look like resorts, and theres a good chance that a lot of those people are actually fairly rich westerners. Sure lumber is used over there instead of brick, because its cheaper and more available, but you cant associate the presence of wood with 'squalor' conditions - wood floats, just like bloated bodies, and the tidal movement over there drifted them all together. Lots of beach huts (made specifically for tourists) and sunbeds etc etc are made from wood, so it is equally possible that the wood you are seeing was torn from boutique theme resteraunts/cafes/hotels etc that cost more than the place you and i are in right now

these guys do have running water, you realise - its not like anyone has a quick dip in the sea before work in the morning, particularly not on that beach (being a tourist beach), its not the middle ages you know. besides, washing yourself with brine is a recipe for ballrash, particularly in the tropics. Most of the people you see there are likely tourists, or locals servicing those tourists - locals who are likely to be far more affluent than the rest of the populace

the governments over there are very cliquey and corrupted, so youre right, nothing will change. the rich will remain in power, and will remain rich, while the poor will keep living hand to mouth, as they have always done, given enough from the government and elite to satisfy proprietry, and thats it.

the only thing that may come out of this is the establishment of a tsunami warning system, but that will likely be out of concern for declining tourist numbers, and to restore confidence in the area, more than out of concern for poorer locals.

Itll be just like the bali tragedy, give it a year, and everything will be back to normal. if i had a spare couple hundred grand, i would go over to Phuket in thailand and buy some beachfront property. there is likely to be diminished demand, and lots of people scared/distraught/dead who are disposing of property...wait a couple of years for the tsunami warning system to be set up, wait for the hysteria to drop off and UN money to start things up a bit, then consider development and cashing in on your investment.
