this 8 yr old lifts weights!

if you've seen vids of those chinese kids, you can understand how they've managed to build up to where they are now... someone had posted a link a while back.
 
I wish I had started that early. I wanted to, but my parents bought into the whole too young to lift thing untill late in highschool. With all luck my kid will have the drive to start this young. I think that is what we all wish for.
 
Sorry I don't think it's a good idea to weight lift till your 12 or so. I think it does more harm then good, for that matter 15-16 is probably a better age to start.

I still think this is just a myth. The theory is that you should not workout before significant muscle/skeleton development. If weight training stumps your growth why am I still growing at age 27? I have been working out for ten years.

Thats true, we have kids under ten years old at our club, they are just trained on technique, their isnt any need to push their strength because it will increase naturally as their bodyweight increases.
 
That video is of James Moser's younger brother Willy, who turned 8 recently. James Moser is a lifter who lifts here with me and recently clean and jerked over 400lbs at 17 years of age. In this video Willy is 7 years old, and it is a regular 20kg mens bar he is using. His current maximum lifts are 30kilo or 66lb snatch and 40kilo or 88lb clean and jerk. He came close right after his 8th birthday with 50kg on the clean and jerk or 110lbs.

Starting early didnt hurt his older brother, who is 17 years old, 6'3" tall, and 220lbs and is as i said, clean and jerking over 400lbs already. We have several kids in this age range who are good lifters, including an 8 year old girl who does about the same weights as willy does.

I think that is complete bullshit. I began weightlifting when I was 10 years old and now I am a huge and swole 180lbs on a 4'8" frame.

But seriously, when I was young I did pull-ups and hardcore running (I was into gymnastics and soccer) which is the exact same as weightlifting (you just lift ur bodyweight instead of iron) and I don't think it negatively affected me at all.

the whole growth plate thing is an old wives tale and belongs in the weightlifting bin just like muscle binding. the chinese have a few thousand kid lifters from which they will ultimately select their future olympic champions. nothing new in this.

i dont know if they are "exhinitionist sqauters" or benching....but they were invited down there

this is the exact quote from thier mother on another forum

i got vids of them squating/pulling/etc
 
I am not sure anyone is misunderstanding this, but just in case. James Moser is 100% CLEAN... actually just started taking a multivitamin and some minerals, before that hadnt taken ANY kind of supplements.
