Don't let those two transplant texans discourage you, I lived in central and north central Texas for 13yrs. Went to high school and college there. The people are very friendly, the food is great, and the cost of living is very good, and of course the girls ohhhhh the girls. Texas has the best woman in the nation. Have a great time, you can get AS anywhere!!!

6-8 hours to Laredo or Eagle Pass (8 with heavy traffic and construction), where do you guys get 12, RT? Let's see Dallas to Austin is an easy 3 hours, Austin to Laredo or Eagle Pass is an easy 3 hours- (Austin to McAllen 4.5-several border towns there). I guess if you gotta piss a dzn times and don't pack you meals. Either way, driving roundtrip-you are looking at your weekend more or less.

Dallas = money-grubbing women and too much traffic/construction.
Austin = Nirvana (once we get rid of everyone moving from Houston).

the gear grows on trees in texas, so i think you should move here. and if you have my driving skills it takes 8 hours from dallas. if i was you i'd consider austin or houston first though, there are a few more gear trees there. good luck.
