Thinking about doing a semester abroad.

My school has a campus in Rome, Italy. Since it's actually the same school I wouldn't have to worry about credits transfering or anything.

I haven't gone down to the office at school to get the information yet, but I'm guessing the price will be around the same as I pay now.

With the price it's probbly the same tution plus around the same for dorming and then I'd need to pay for the flight to get there and back.

I wanted to go away to school when I first started but for relationship reasons I stayed home and commuted. Now I have the opportunity to go, I'm hoping this will actually go threw and happen.

Anyone else doing a semester in another country for a semester?

why france?

mostly my parent's wishes i guess...

my sister and I have been enrolled in french immersion since we were 5 or so... so we're both perfectly fluent in french by Canadian high school/university standards... but compared to real French, we suck.
My sister did a year abroad in Lyon, France.... and she loved it, and it helped her French a lot. My parents now want the same for me, and my school has connections with a school in Nice. I've been there before and its beautiful, I'm just a little intimidated about going to another continent where everyone doesn't speak my first language, where i know no one, and have to take classes in a foreign language...
plus im scared about the whole "working out" thing... Supposedly the campus gym is shit, and the whole weight-lifting scene there is pretty much non-existant...

Understandable.

I'm a bit skeptic about following through with this myself. I don't know how I would be going alone to another country and not knowing anyone. I have never lived out away from my parents before and have never been away from fimiliar people such as friends.

I'm thinking I need to ignore these feels and just go through with it wether I like it or not. Either way it would be an experience that would teach me more about myself.

Don't. I watched a show on parasites last night. Terryifying. And everyone of them came from some place else other than here.

I'd go for it. Of course that's easy for me to say since I'm not in your situation therefore, I don't face your fears, but yeah. Go for it.

I think either you responded to the wrong thread by mistake....or if not you have no clue what you are even talking about.

actually, i gotta agree with rsnoble on this one...

a lot of foreign countries have parasites that arent
adequately controlled in their food and water supplies...

not a big problem for them, major problem for outsiders/tourists...

but i dont think you were thinking of third world countries to visit, other than france...:)

I'm thinking I really need to do this.

When I said before I was second guessing myself is cause once I'm there it's no turning back and not going through the 3 months.

I use to never like being home growing up but 2 years ago I had an accident and was stuck in bed for weeks. After that I seemed to never like being away from my house.

My ex's mother use to call me a Homebody cause I would never go over her house. I hated staying out for the night. Even on vacations I would be sometimes get tired of being on vacation and want to be home.

I guess doing this foriegn study would probbly be the best thing for me. Sorta like throwing myself back in the fire of life.

My other concern that I need to find out from my school is how everything is set up. I would love to just goto classes there and live just liike I do now. Goto class and then home and do my own thing on the weekends. I don't wanna be on a big field trip and just be kept with going around with other study abroad people.

It will give you a whole new perspective on life and open your mind to new experences.

And there are so many country's at your doorstep from Rome that you can experience.

Definitely go!!! I wish I had done something like this when I was in college... but I didn't because of a relationship (a stupid kid thing that I thought was important at the time). I would love to have this opportunity now, but now I have to work.

Go have a great time, live your life to the fullest!:D

Go for it, bro.

You may never get the chance to do it again, seriously.

Forget about her, get on the plane and do as Roman's do!

I regret not studying abroad for a semester in college. Had a chance to go to Switzerland, but didn't. Imagine what a fun, educational time i would have had. My gf studies abroad in China for one year and a friend's bro studied in Australia..

Think living in another country opens you up to other cultures and ways of life vs what you see in the US only.

You live only once so take the opportunity, unlike me!!!
