Hey all,
My roomate and his girlfriend asked me an interesting question last night.
She is on birth control, and wants to start taking thermogenics to help her lose weight. However, she stated that she had heard that certain supplements, including thermogenics, can have an extreme effect on the effectiveness of birth control.
I asked a local pharmacist what he thought, and he told me that anything metabolized in the liver can effect other liver functions, and thus could in theory effect her birth control, although he admitted that he had not heard anything specifically about thermogenics and birth control.
I've also been told that St. John's Wort can effect birth control. Has anyone out there heard of this? Or can point to any data that could prove or disprove this?
Thanks.
