BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa - A South African zoo wants a chimpanzee to quit smoking cold turkey.

Keepers say Charlie the chimpanzee picked up the habit from visitors at the Bloemfontein Zoo who sometimes toss him cigarettes.

"It looks funny to see a chimp smoking," a zoo spokesman said, but Charlie's trick could cost him his health.

The zoo is asking people to stop tossing cigarettes and contributing to the chimp's habit.

A zoo official says Charlie "acts like a naughty schoolboy" and hides his cigarettes when workers are around

I saw a long video clip of that last night...hilarious! It's not just the fact that he's smoking that's funny....he actually has the mannerisms of a longtime smoker down pat. From the way he holds the cig, to the facial expressions...even the way this guy walks upright and leans against things in his habitat like he's just chillin' most of the time, you can tell that he thinks he's people.

at the ZOO here in Baton Rouge, there is a monkey that smokes I went last weekend and a guy threw in a half smoked cig and the monkey smoked it...

Yeah, I saw that on the news this morning, looks so weird! Like cdnhitman said, he does it just like a person.. freaky! And people keep tossing him lit cigarettes, lol!
